Chapter 251
“The way you’re trying to read this is a linear trap,” he said, “Your brain doesn’t move in lines, Gianna. It moves in spheres. You’re trying to force a 3D mind into a 2D space. It’s a sensory overload, not a lack of intelligence.”
He shifted his weight, and I felt the heat of him radiating through my palm. Having my hand pressed to his lap was grounding me far more than the pain of the table ever could.
It was a different kind of intensity… one that made my stomach feel like it was filled with liquid gold.
“I’m changing the font to a heavy-bottomed typeface and increasing the line spacing,” he muttered, clicking through the settings, “And we’re switching the background to a soft charcoal. The high contrast of the white is causing the washout effect.”
I watched as the screen transformed. Suddenly, the ants stopped crawling. The letters felt… a little clearer. At least, they weren’t jumping anymore.
“Now,” he said, his thumb beginning to rub slow, rhythmic circles over the back of my hand, right where it stayed pressed against his thigh. The friction was maddening, “Don’t look at the whole block. Look at this one function. Tell me the logic. Don’t worry about the spelling. Just tell me the path the data takes.”
I swallowed hard, my throat dry. Being this close to him, with my hand trapped between his palm and his leg, I felt like I was short-circuiting. But the “noise” in my head had gone quiet.
“It… it goes into the hidden layer,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “It calculates the weights, then it compares it to the target…”
“Good,” he rasped. He leaned in closer, his chest brushing my arm, his scent wrapping around me like a dark velvet blanket. He typed exactly what I said, turning my thoughts into perfect, clean code, “See? You’re just a high -performance engine trying to run on cheap fuel. You need a different interface, that’s all.”
