Chapter 252
I stared at him, my brain trying to process what he was saying. He rattled off those names of visionaries, geniuses, people who literally changed the world acting as if my disability was a superpower.
“Wait,” I whispered, “How do you even know all that?”
I looked at him, searching his face. Raphael wasn’t exactly the type to spend his free time reading inspirational quotes or scrolling through fun facts on the internet. He was a man of data, of cold numbers and power moves.
His thumb traced a slow line across my knuckles. The moonlight caught the sharp edge of his jaw.
“Because I looked it up,” he said simply.
I blinked, my heart doing a strange little stutter. “You… what?”
“After you told me,” he said, “After you admitted why you were struggling with the paperwork. I went home and I researched it.”
He said it so matter-of-factly, like it was just another part of his job. He had gone home, and spent his time looking into the way my mind worked.
I felt a lump in my throat. I had spent so many years trying to hide this, trying to be the perfect daughter for a father who only valued normal, that I never imagined someone would actually take the time to learn the language of my mess.
“You did that?” I asked, my voice barely audible.
“I did it because I wanted to see the full picture of you, Gianna,” he murmured, “And the picture is a lot more impressive than you think it is.”
I looked down at his hand covering mine, then back up at him. I felt a weird flutter in my chest. “Impressive? Me?”
“Yeah,” he said, “I realized I’ve been keeping you on the wrong floor. You don’t belong where I put you. I need you somewhere else in my office…”
