Chapter 392
“Found you,” Raphael breathed against my ear.
My pulse went completely insane. His hand flattened against my stomach while the other grabbed both my wrists easily, pinning them above my head against a tree trunk.
The bark scraped lightly against my skin. Raphael pressed closer behind me, breathing harder now from the chase.
“You’re fast,” he murmured.
I tilted my head slightly toward him, trying not to react to how good his body felt against mine, “You sound surprised.”
“You kept disappearing.”
“You’re slow, old man.’
A dangerous laugh vibrated against my neck. Then his hand slid down my side and my body jerked instantly.
Raphael froze.
Oh no.
His mouth slowly curved against my throat, “Was that a weak spot?”
“No.”
“You just jumped.”
“I slipped.”
Before I could argue, his fingers dragged lightly against my ribs again. A startled laugh ripped out of me.
“Raphael!”
“There it is.”
“Stop!”
He did it again.
I twisted hard, laughing helplessly while trying to kick him backward, “You are SUCH an asshole!”
I was still laughing when I slammed my knee hard between his legs and it was enough to distract him for one second.
That was all I needed. I ripped one wrist free and ducked under his arm before sprinting away again.
“Gianna-”
My laughter echoed through the trees while I ran blindly deeper into the woods, adrenaline and heartbreak and excitement crashing together so hard inside my chest I couldn’t separate any of it anymore.
All I knew was that Raphael was chasing me.
Branches whipped past me while I ran between the trees, my bare foot slipping over leaves and damp roots. Somewhere behind me, I could hear Raphael crashing after me now instead of stalking quietly.
