My Stepbrother's Dirty Little Secret novel Chapter 391

Chapter 391

Gianna

The second I crossed into the woods, I took off running.

Cold air rushed against my face as the lights from The Void faded farther and farther behind me. The loud music slowly disappeared until all I could hear was my breathing, the snapping of twigs beneath my heels, and the wind moving through the trees above me.

The pink ribbon around my throat fluttered behind me while I pushed deeper between the trees/my dress riding higher against my thighs every time I moved.

Branches scratched lightly against my bare skin. Mud splashed against my ankles. I barely noticed any of it./ Because for the first time all night, my head felt quiet.

No overthinking.

No aching.

No horrible voice reminding me what I really was to him.

Friend.

The word slammed into me anyway.

My chest tightened instantly, but I shoved the feeling down hard before it could ruin this. I wasn’t going to think about that tonight. I couldn’t.

Tonight I just wanted him.

This version of him.

The version that chased me through dark woods like he would lose his mind if I escaped him.

A laugh almost escaped me at the thought. I slowed near a narrow trail, quickly ducking behind a thick tree trunk. My chest rose and fell hard while I peeked around the bark carefully.

There was no sign of him. A nervous thrill crawled down my spine.

“Raphael?” I called softly into the dark.

“Already looking for me?” his deep voice drifted through the woods around me. I jumped so hard I nearly

screamed.

A breathless laugh burst from my mouth instead as I spun around, trying to figure out where the hell he was hiding.

“You’re creepy,” I called back.

A low chuckle echoed somewhere to my left, “You won’t think that when I catch you.”

Heat curled low in my stomach. I smiled despite myself and backed away slowly before taking off down another trail.
