Chapter 311: Deformation

Instead of replying directly, Li Tianyu removed his shirt to reveal his chest. The soldiers stared at the pink skin on his chest, their eyes widening in shock. After a moment of stunned silence, they erupted in joy.

The man with a swollen arm asked in disbelief, "Captain, how did you heal your body?"

Li Tianyu gestured toward Yao Ran and said, "Miss Yao gave me medicine. I recovered within a few hours after drinking the medicine. The healing process was painful, but the medicine was incredibly effective."

"Since many of you are in the same condition as me, I asked Miss Yao and Captain Long to come and see if she could cure you guys."

The soldiers were visibly moved when they heard his words, with some even shedding tears. Uncomfortable with the emotional display, Li Tianyu turned to Yao Ran and asked, "Miss Yao, what do you think? Can you cure them?"

Yao Ran had already observed them and noted that most were in the early stages of mutation. With the lake water's current healing power, completely curing them would not be a problem.

"They can be cured, but two of them will require larger doses of medicine due to the severity of their deformation," she explained calmly.

When the soldiers heard this, they cheered and excitedly expressed their gratitude.

Raising her hand to silence them, Yao Ran said, "Don't thank me yet. The severity of deformation varies from one person to the other, so the results may not be the same for everyone."

"If you want to thank me, do so after you have recovered. For now, show me your deformed body parts so I can determine how much medicine each of you needs."

At her instruction, the soldiers began removing their shirts one by one. Those with deformed legs were too embarrassed to take off their pants and only rolled them up to show the deformed legs to Yao Ran.

Seeing his girlfriend staring and touching other men's bodies, Long Yu's expression darkened, but he remained silent.

Looking at Long Yu's stinky face, Li Tianyu sighed inwardly and thought, 'I will have to prepare something special for Captain Long later. With his vengeful personality, he might refuse to give me any cigarettes in the future just because we show our bodies to Miss Yao today.'

It took Yao Ran more than twenty minutes to carefully examine the soldiers. After determining the severity of their conditions, she took out a few bottles of lake water from her backpack.

She poured the lake water into the soldiers' cups and instructed, "Drink it."

After she said that, the soldiers turned to look at Li Tianyu. When he nodded, they drank the water without hesitation.

Almost immediately, warmth spread through their bodies. Moments later, they groaned in pain.

Seeing that their reactions were similar to his own experience, Li Tianyu clenched his fists and watched over them patiently.

Most of the soldiers fainted from the pain, but one remained conscious as he gritted his teeth and tried to stay conscious.

As he saw them off, Li Tianyu advised, "Be careful on your way back. I will investigate the experiments they were doing here. Next time you visit, you can collect the investigation results from my men."

Long Yu nodded, "Understood."

Before leaving, Long Yu handed over the rest of the cigarettes in his bag and reminded Li Tianyu, "Smoke less."

Li Tianyu's eyes lit up as he accepted them and grinned. "I know, I know," he said as he held the packs of cigarettes.

After wearing their masks, Long Yu took Yao Ran's hand, and they left the building. Once the door closed, Li Tianyu's cheerful expression vanished.

He gazed at the unconscious soldiers with a complex look in his eyes and muttered, "I'm lucky Long Yu came today. Otherwise, we all might have become experiment subjects in two days. Those doctors really picked the worst time for the yearly health check."

Coming out of the four-story building, Long Yu and Yao Ran noticed some of the people who had been following them earlier. They were now either hiding in alleys or blending in with the survivors on the roadside.

The two of them exchanged a glance but pretended not to notice those people's existence, continuing their walk.

As they moved through the slum's narrow, filthy streets, Long Yu realized those people weren't following them. He glanced back and saw that they were still watching the building.
