Never Mistake a Queen for a Lapdog novel Chapter 1021

The two of them, lost in a haze of passion, stiffened simultaneously.

Seth blindly reached for his phone on the center console, accidentally hitting the answer button.

Connected to the car's Bluetooth, Jude Wilder’s curious voice blared abruptly through the speakers, so clear it sounded like he was sitting in the backseat.

"Seth? How's it going? Did you finally score with Noreen?"

The air in the car seemed to freeze.

Noreen's face instantly burned red.

Seth took a deep breath, forcefully suppressing the intense frustration of being interrupted, his voice dropping to a freezing register. "It seems you have entirely too much free time."

Jude paused on the other end of the line.

Then he squawked in protest. "Free time? Don't you have a conscience? I haven't taken a vacation in a year! I'm literally still at the office working overtime right now!"

His incessant complaining gave Seth an instant headache.

"I even squeezed in this courtesy call to check on you during a coffee break between conference calls!"

"How can you bite the hand that feeds you?"

"I only gave you advice because you're struggling so hard to woo Noreen! I was worried you were going to sink into a depression!"

"If today's move didn't work, I've got a backup plan."

"You know The Half-Light Club, right? You should go there for a little training session. The Pros there have tons of experience with sugar mommies. You could learn a thing or two—"

Seth abruptly ended the call.

A dead silence fell over the car.

Jude's mood-killing interruption was like a bucket of ice water, completely extinguishing the wild fire that had just ignited between them.

Noreen sat up in a fluster, her trembling fingers undoing the hair tie she had just put in.

Her silky long hair tumbled down, hiding her flushed ears and burning cheeks.

She took a few deep breaths, trying to steady her wildly racing heart.

Though her voice still carried a lingering, husky tightness, she was clearly much calmer than during their passionate entanglement moments ago.

"I should go inside."

She kept her gaze lowered, avoiding the eyes of the man beside her.
