Next Man Better Plan novel Chapter 36

Chapter 36

Jonathan frowned, his eyes darkening. “You love him that much?”

“What?” Stephanie blinked. His last words were spoken so softly, and a gust of wind had picked up at just that moment, so she hadn’t heard him clearly.

Jonathan glanced up, a humorless smile on his face. “You know, I’m suddenly not in the mood to discuss the acquisition tonight. Maybe next time.”

With that, he made a move to leave.

Stephanie frowned. This guy… He comes all this way, sets the mood, and now he’s not going to talk?

Just then, Jonathan’s phone rang.

Seeing it was Mrs. Vasquez Sr., he scowled.

He answered the phone with, “Don’t start with the threatening to hang yourself again. I’ve heard it so many times I’m sick of it. Don’t you ever get tired of the same old trick?”

Mrs. Vasquez Sr. was sitting on the sofa in the Vasquez family home, clutching a bright red marriage certificate, grinning from ear to ear. “Jonathan, congratulations! You’re married!”

“What the hell?” Jonathan’s brow furrowed instantly. “Are you dreaming, or are you so desperate for me to come home that you’ve lost your mind?”

Stephanie glanced at Jonathan curiously. From the sound of it… was that his girlfriend?

Mrs. Vasquez Sr. chuckled happily. “Today I went to Aeterna Abbey to pray for a match for you, and guess what? I found one! The girl is fair-skinned, beautiful, and very well-mannered. So I took matters into my own hands and married her for you! Jonathan, you have a wife now!”

This wasn’t good news for Jonathan. It was a catastrophe.

“A wife? Are you kidding me?”

He instinctively glanced at Stephanie, then took a few steps away to ensure she couldn’t

overhear.

Watching Jonathan’s back, Stephanie wondered if he really did have a girlfriend. And they lived together? Then why did he kiss her that day?

Was he just a flirt?

Stephanie frowned, her expression growing serious.

Chapter 36

She knew very little about Jonathan. Could he be a player at heart?

Mrs. Vasquez Sr. continued, “I’m not kidding! Once you meet her, I guarantee you’ll like her.”

“So you’re telling me I’m a married man now?”

“That’s right.”

Jonathan’s voice rose several octaves in his agitation. “Who gave you the right to do that? Why would you do something like this?”

“I did it for your own good! If I waited for you to get married, I’d be waiting forever!” Jonathan didn’t believe it. This was beyond absurd. It was insanity.

But when Mrs. Vasquez Sr. actually sent him a photo of a marriage certificate, he started to believe it a little.

“Where is this woman!” Jonathan’s lips twisted into a cruel smile. “She thinks she can scheme her way into my life? I’ll make her pay!”

He refused to believe it was a simple coincidence.

The woman must have targeted a gullible old woman like Mrs. Vasquez Sr. She was probably a professional con artist.
