Nine C-Section, Nine Dead Sons, One Escape novel Chapter 15

Easton took me to an exclusive highend steakhouse with perfect privacy.

He was the perfect gentleman the entire time, pulling out my chair, cutting my steak, and peeling shrimp for me.

I ate with total peace of mind.

This was all earned through my sheer talent forwell, let’s call it strategic communication.

When we’d finished eating, Easton wiped his mouth and asked suddenly, By the way, you said you were being bullied by your roommates?

I froze midchew, then immediately slipped into performance mode. My eyes went glossy.

Yeah, they totally look down on me. Say I’m too broke, too basic. They never include me in

anything.

Especially this girl, Seraphina. Thinks she’s all that because she’s pretty and comes from money. Orders me around constantly, mocks my clothes for being cheap.

If I were gonna play the villainess, might as well commit.

And snitching was my specialty.

Easton’s face darkened, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.

Seraphina. Got it.

No one dares to mess with you from now on, or I’ll make them regret ever being born.

I glanced at the comments flashing by.

[Damn! This side character has no shame! Twisting the story like that!]

(When did Seraphina ever bully her? She’s the one playing broke and pathetic!]

[Easton, wake up! Seraphina is supposed to be your girl!]

A cold laugh bubbled up in my chest.

Supposed to be?

Sorry, he’s mine now.

After dinner, Easton suggested we go shopping.

I was gonna turn him downI’d already mooched enough. Let him spend more on me? My conscience wouldokay, let’s be real. I didn’t have one.

But I was scared of running into Seraphina.

The world could be ridiculously small sometimes.

And of course, the one thing I feared the most happened.

We were trying on bags in a luxury boutique when a familiar voice rang out from the door.

Honey, I really want this bag. Buy it for me, please!

My whole body tensed up, and through the mirror, I saw Seraphina walk in on the arm of a bald

middleaged man.

He was potbellied, his face shiny with oil, a thick gold chain around his necktotal new money, plain and simple.

Seraphina was leaning against him with a coquettish look, pointing at a limitededition bag on the counter and whining.

The comments exploded in an instant.

[What the hell! Why is Seraphina with this fossil?]

[This guy’s old enough to be her dad!]

[Welp, there goes the goddess fantasy..]

[YEP. We’re walking straight into a showdown.]

I instinctively tried to hide, but Easton wrapped an arm around my waist and held me tight. What? You like that bag too?

His voice wasn’t loud, but it cut through the quiet of the shop crystal clear.

Seraphina heard him and spun around.

Our eyes met, and the air seemed to freeze solid.

Seraphina’s gaze darted between Easton and me, finally locking onto Easton’s devastatingly

handsome face, her eyes nearly popping out of her head.

Then she saw the watch on his wrist, and the handful of designer shopping bags in my hand.

Her face turned deathly pale in an instant, then flared bright reda mix of jealousy and rage.

Anya Whitlock? What are you doing here? She shrieked, pointing at me, her fingers trembling.

Whowho is this man?

I hadn’t even opened my mouth when Easton spoke first, his tone cold as ice. I’m her boyfriend. Is there a problem?

Seraphina’s eyes went wide. She stared at me in disbelief, then back at Easton.

Boyfriend? You’re thatmy backup guy?

The words blurted out before she could stop them, and she clapped a hand over her mouth in a panic, realizing she’d let the cat out of the bag.

The bald man was furious; he wrenched his arm free from Seraphina’s grasp. Backup guy? You’ve got another man?

The whole scene was unbearably awkward.

I buried my face in Easton’s chest, struggling not to burst out laughing.

This drama was even better than I could’ve imagined!
