No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 31

The rain was still falling late into the night.

By the time Peter dropped York off at home, the doctor had just left.

York went to the bedside, his eyes fixed on Claudia's unnaturally pale face.

Even in her sleep, her brow was furrowed, her eyelashes damp as if from a bad dream.

He took her hand; it was burning hot.

She had been fine when he left, with enough energy to fight with him. How could she have suddenly gotten so sick?

If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn't have believed it.

In his memory, Claudia had always been healthy, able to hold a plank for five minutes without breaking a sweat.

York turned to his sister. "When did she get this fever?"

"I couldn't reach Claudia on her phone, and you weren't answering either," Darleen explained. "Mom was worried you two had fought, so she sent me over to check."

Darleen continued, "When I got here, she was lying in the yard, in the rain. I have no idea how long she was out there."

Peter nudged York with his elbow. "Did you two fight before you left?"

York's face was terrifyingly dark. "Both of you can go home."

Darleen was still worried. "Brother, we've given her the fever reducer. The doctor said to help bring her temperature down with a cool compress and to check it every hour. If it keeps rising, we have to take her to the hospital."

York nodded.

Peter pulled Darleen out of the bedroom. "Darleen, let's have a chat about how exactly my ass has offended you."

Darleen grabbed Peter's collar. "Peter, you must know where Ann lives. Take me to her!"

Suddenly, his ass didn't seem so important anymore. Peter slipped away like an eel and hurried downstairs.

In the master bedroom, York, dressed in a white shirt and black trousers with his sleeves rolled up to reveal his powerful forearms, attended to Claudia.

He took her temperature on schedule, gave her water, and sponged her down to cool her body.

His calm, focused demeanor was like that of someone completing a task.

"York…"

York came out just then and saw Claudia standing frozen in the hallway.

He walked over to her and raised a hand to feel her forehead.

Claudia turned her head, avoiding his touch.

York's expression hardened. "Claudia, is that any way for a wife to treat her husband?"

As if she hadn't heard him, Claudia started walking toward the stairs.

She wanted to scream, to unleash every bit of resentment she'd stored up. But she couldn't. She didn't have the strength for it. Worse, she no longer had the right to.

By the time she was back in the bedroom, neither of them had mentioned the word 'infidelity' again.

But besides that topic, Claudia realized, there was nothing left for them to say to each other.

Claudia was about to head into the dressing room when York grabbed her wrist.

He pulled her in front of him. "Why didn't you call me when you got sick? Do you have any idea you were unconscious for three days?"
