After an hour, when Peter and Darleen helped York into the mansion, they walked into the middle of a screaming match between Sewell and Wendy. Old Mr. Ferguson sat on the sofa, his face like a thundercloud, saying nothing. A shattered plate and scattered fruit littered the floor.
The tension in the room was so thick that York stopped dead in his tracks.
Sewell and Wendy fell silent the moment they saw him, wounded and unannounced.
The butler hurried over to assist. "Young Master, please be careful."
"You're this badly injured," Wendy said, her voice laced with worry. "Why aren't you in the hospital? What are you doing back here?"
York's gaze settled on his father and grandfather.
Peter whispered a few words in Wendy's ear. Her expression changed instantly, and she ordered the butler to call the family doctor.
York was helped to the sofa. The doctor arrived, checked the wound, and announced that it was bleeding again. He urged them to get York to a hospital immediately.
Sewell ordered someone to bring the car around.
York remained on the sofa, his face grim, and didn't move.
Sewell pointed at him and yelled, "You got yourself hurt like this for that woman, and now you won't even go back to the hospital for treatment! What are you trying to do?"
"Dad," York said, gritting his teeth against the pain, "you and Grandpa went to the Watkins' house without my permission. What exactly were you trying to do?"
The mention of the Watkins family reignited Sewell's fury. He pointed a finger at York, his voice dripping with arrogance. "We are the Fergusons! A family with a hundred-year legacy, wealthier than any of the other eight great families!"
"I am the chairman of the Ferguson Group, and I am your father! When they slap my face, they are slapping yours!" Sewell roared. "You tolerate this behavior for that woman, and you have the nerve to come back here and ask us what we were trying to do?"
"If you hadn't gone to their house," York countered flatly, "no one from the Watkins family would have laid a hand on you."
