"Grandfather, I hurt Claudia first," York said, his voice unwavering. "I don't need her to acknowledge anything good I do. I just need you to promise you won't bother her and her family anymore!"
A cup shattered against the floor.
"Is this how I raised you?" Sewell shouted, pointing at York. "A real man focuses on his career, not getting himself knifed over some woman!! Look at you! You don't have an ounce of the dignity a Ferguson heir should have!"
York struggled to his feet and walked over to his father and grandfather.
His voice was firm. "I can give up my position as the Ferguson heir, but I will not give up on my marriage to Claudia!"
Old Mr. Ferguson's voice was heavy. "So it has to be her? There's no one else?"
"Yes," York said, without a trace of hesitation.
"The engagement date with Miss Windsor is set!" Sewell's hands were trembling with rage. "Remarrying that woman is impossible. Don't even think about it!!"
Darleen couldn't take it anymore. "Dad, Claudia has a name! Could you please stop calling her 'that woman'? Can you show a little respect?"
Sewell pointed at Darleen but addressed York. "You see? Look what's happened! Ever since you married that woman, all of you have been corrupted by her! Even Darleen dares to talk back to her elders!"
His face was livid. "Ever since that woman set foot in this house, there's been nothing but fighting! Not a single moment of peace!"
Wendy nearly choked on her anger. She pointed at Sewell. "Sewell, if I hadn't been tolerating you all these years, this family would have fallen apart long ago! Don't you dare push all the blame onto Claudia!"
