Old Mr. Ferguson raised his hand, and his butler, Palmer, who was standing behind him, quickly placed a document in front of Claudia.
Claudia glanced down at it. It was a share transfer agreement.
"This is fifteen percent of Ferguson Group's shares," Old Mr. Ferguson said. "That's five percent more than the shares we gave Darleen. If you can convince York to obediently accept treatment in the hospital, or if you are willing to go back to him, this fifteen percent of Ferguson Group's shares will be yours."
Claudia calmly pushed the agreement back across the table toward Old Mr. Ferguson.
Her expression turned serious. "Everyone's time is valuable. If you have nothing else to discuss, Patriarch, I won't keep you."
Claudia stood up.
Old Mr. Ferguson spoke. "Does York's life and death truly mean nothing to you?"
Claudia met his gaze, looking down at him.
"Patriarch," she said, "besides your son and your grandson, have you ever cared about anyone else's life or death?"
Old Mr. Ferguson's eyes narrowed sharply.
Claudia continued, "Your grandson is the man he is today in no small part thanks to you and President Ferguson. You truly did an excellent job raising him. He perfectly embodies the spirit of a businessman, always putting profit first. How could a selfish and cold-hearted man like him ever allow anything to happen to himself?"
Old Mr. Ferguson's face darkened. "You've worked so hard for nothing more than fame and fortune. With fifteen percent of Ferguson Group in your hands, the Watkins family could become one of the most powerful and influential families in Capital City overnight. You might want to reconsider."
Claudia let out a cold laugh. "Patriarch, it's true I seek fame and fortune, but there are some things I will do, and some things I won't."
She looked at the patriarch, leaned in, and said to him, word by word, "When it comes to anything related to the Ferguson family, I want to stay as far away as possible!"
Old Mr. Ferguson rose to his feet.
York explained patiently, "If we don't periodically inject new, capable talent into the company, the older employees lose their sense of urgency and competitiveness. That's bad for the company's growth."
Mark handed two documents to Darleen.
Darleen opened the project proposal and found another issue. "York, I think I remember hearing you and Dad talk about the Qidong project before. You said the initial investment was huge and the return on investment was slow, so you weren't considering it for now."
York lowered his gaze, hiding the emotion in his eyes. "I've made some adjustments to the project. It will guarantee over ten years of profits for Ferguson Group, plus other additional income. Take it back and read it carefully."
Darleen had a very bad feeling.
She walked around the desk to stand in front of York, then lowered her voice. "York, be honest with me. Is it because of Claudia—"
York cut her off, his face expressionless. "I want you to meet someone. Go down to the elevators and greet her personally."
