Ann let out a tearful sigh of gratitude. "Don't worry, Auntie. I wish that little bastard would just drop dead!"
Now that York had turned on her, the child would only be a burden. She had been wondering how to get rid of him, and luckily, her aunt had appeared to solve this huge problem for her. As long as no one in the country knew she had been married and had a child abroad, she could start over.
Selene gently wiped Ann's tears. "Stop crying. Tomorrow, I'll take you to a charity gala hosted by one of the prominent families. It's time you saw the world."
At eight o'clock the next evening, the Jordan Family Charity Gala was in full swing.
Darleen, draped in a long black coat over a champagne-gold, sequined evening gown with a plunging V-neck and a high slit, stood at the entrance on Peter's arm.
Peter glanced down at the deep V of her dress and pulled the coat on her shoulders closer together. "You know what my cousin thinks of you, and you still dare to wear something like this?"
Darleen yanked the coat off. "What do I have to be afraid of with you by my side?"
Peter tried to put it back on her, but she shrugged it off again, complaining it ruined the look. They stood at the entrance, one trying to put the coat on, the other pulling it off.
Darleen's temper flared. "Pe-ter!"
Meeting her fiery gaze, Peter pouted and draped the coat over his own arm. "Fine, don't wear it. Why are you yelling at me?"
Darleen linked her arm through his again. "Because you're annoying me."
They shot each other a look before heading toward the entrance. Just as they reached the doorway, Peter reached out and unclipped a pin from her hair. A cascade of silky black hair tumbled down, and he quickly arranged it to cover her chest.
"Ouch!" Peter yelped.
His mother, Haley Jordan, showed him no mercy. "I told you to bring your fiancée, and you said you had an upset stomach and couldn't go out."
Haley switched hands, still twisting his ear. "What happened? All better now?"
Peter still had Darleen's coat draped over one arm. He hunched over, grimacing in pain, but his eyes were fixed on Darleen. He saw his cousin, Dailey, slide up to her with a lecherous look.
Panicked, Peter begged, "Mom, Mom, you're the best. Please, just give me some face. Let me go to the bathroom before you yell at me. My stomach really hurts, I'm about to have an accident!"
