Noelle saw Laura on her knees in the hospital room. She looked disheveled, her face still streaked with tears.

This version of Laura didn't look foreign. After all, she and her mother had begged Noelle, too, only to immediately turn hostile after Laura got involved with Bradley. They even repeatedly insulted Noelle's parents.

Noelle walked over and stared at her. "All of you are willing to go all out. If you put this level of persistence into your career, you'd probably be successful by now."

But the Merlock family always preferred scheming over self-improvement.

Laura glared at Noelle. "I underestimated you, Noelle."

She had thought they would win this time, certain the witness and evidence would be destroyed. But both attempts had failed.

In the end, Noelle even managed to convince Bradley not to help them.

Laura was at a dead end. With rumors of her and Bradley spreading like wildfire, what wealthy family would still want someone like her as their daughter-in-law?

Left with no other choice, Laura had come to plead with Emma, hoping she might relent.

Noelle said coldly, "No, I think I underestimated you. The Merlocks clearly had no chance at redemption, yet you still nearly succeeded."

If the USB drive was stolen and Xenia's father died, Noelle wouldn't have been able to bring down Ruth. It was an old case, after all.

Laura laughed bitterly. "Drop the act, Noelle. You must be thrilled right now, right?"

Noelle nodded. "I am, actually. It feels great to see you all paying the price, to see you suffer the consequences of your actions."

Laura shot to her feet, angrily jabbing a finger toward Noelle. "And you think you're so noble?"

Noelle calmly swatted her hand away. "I don't understand. You knew your mother committed a crime and could have turned her in.

"Then, you could have tried to build a better life for yourself. So why follow her orders and get involved with Bradley?"

Laura retorted, "Who are you to judge me? You did all this for your mother. Why can't I do the same for mine?"
