Noelle lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. Ever since she recalled what happened during the car accident, her feelings about Cedric shifted.
Not long after, a visitor arrived at the hospital room. Jeremy walked in with a bag and placed it in front of her. "I brought you some food. I knew no one else would come to see you or bring you something to eat."
The aroma of the food wafted out. Given Jeremy's reputation as a food lover, anything he brought would never be anything less than delicious.
Noelle paused. "Thanks."
Jeremy scoffed. "That's it? You're not even a little touched? I went out of my way to get takeout from a place with a notoriously long line."
Noelle chuckled at his proud tone. "Let me guess. Did the great Mr. Sulton use his face card again?"
"Of course I did. I have to use connections well. But it's not entirely free. I'll have to answer any of their legal questions for free."
As he unpacked the food, Jeremy added, "You should know how expensive my services are. So technically, they're getting the better end of the deal."
Noelle giggled. "I've never heard anyone put it that way before. You really are one of a kind, Mr. Sulton."
Jeremy smiled. "Do you finally realize how I'm more impressive than he? I would've shown up before Cedric if I hadn't gone on that last-minute business trip yesterday."
Noelle's hand froze. Something about that didn't sound quite right. She looked at him. "Wait. Do you like me?"
Jeremy clicked his tongue. "Why do you girls always overthink everything? I'm only here because I'm working on your case. I'm worried about my client, okay?"
Noelle nodded. "That's a relief."
Jeremy fell silent. That didn't feel very pleasant to hear. He looked at her. "Am I that bad? Are you not even slightly touched by me?"
"Come on, Mr. Sulton. Just a moment ago, you didn't want me to overthink it, and now you're upset that I'm not. Living is hard, but being your client is harder."
Jeremy took out a spoon. "Shut up and eat. Or I'll regret ever bringing you food."
"Care to join me?" She handed him a spoon.
After a moment, he finally took them. "See? L Bistro's food is nothing special. The ingredients used are average, the taste is average, and even the packaging is average."
Jeremy spared no effort in criticizing L Bistro's food.
Noelle laughed and shifted the topic. "Now that Mr. Hitchcock has agreed not to help the Merlocks, there won't be any problems with the case, right?"
Jeremy nodded. "Right. I've already sorted all the evidence. Once we go to court, Mrs. Merlock will get what's coming for her."
Noelle smiled. That was a relief. The next morning, Noelle had a brief check-up and was ready to be discharged.
Before leaving, she wanted to say goodbye to Emma. But as she walked up to Emma's hospital room, she saw Laura outside.
