No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 1025

Noelle immediately knew what Laura would say next after hearing her first sentence. As expected, the Merlock family's goal had never changed.

Cedric replied coldly, "Are you the one behind the whole issue about the kidney donor?"

Laura's cheerful voice came through from the other end of the line. "That's right. How else would I have any leverage to negotiate with you otherwise?"

"Laura, your family has already been blackmailing my mother for so many years. You know just how important having a kidney donor is to her, and yet you still try to tamper with it?! After everything she's done for you, how could you do this to her?"

Laura's voice turned sharp and cold. "Heh, she treated me well, you say? I don't really think so.

"If she really treated me well, she would've agreed to my condition and let me marry you. Instead, she refused and even took the side of that bitch, Noelle. So you'd better not blame me now."

Noelle was enraged after hearing Laura's explanation in a self-righteous tone. She did not expect Laura to be such an ungrateful person.

She once believed that Laura was the most rational member of the Merlock family, but it turned out that Laura was just like Ruth herself. The apple truly did not fall far from the tree.

Cedric's voice turned ice cold. "I'll never marry you."

Laura roared, "You're lying! If that bitch Noelle weren't around, you definitely would have married me instead!"

He pursed his lips and replied, "Just give it up already. I won't agree to any of your terms."

"Cedric, are you really going to just watch your mother die? I know that you're not that kind of person. I'll be waiting for you tonight at the Pentastar Hotel. Don't stand me up."

With that, Laura hung up right away, as if afraid that Cedric might refuse her. The private room fell silent.

Noelle looked at everyone and said, "Doesn't Laura feel embarrassed saying all that?"

Jeremy took a sip of his drink and replied, "It's a good thing the call came after dinner, or it would've ruined all of our appetites."

Cedric turned to Noelle and said, "I never agreed to go."

She nodded and replied, "I know. We all heard what Laura said just now."

"I'll go instead," Noelle replied, causing everyone to look at her.

Jeremy raised an eyebrow in response. "Didn't take you to be someone with a savior complex."

Alfred spoke up. "Noelle, there's no need for you to go to them in person. The more you give Laura attention, the more arrogant she will become."

Noelle explained, "I have a feeling that Laura didn't actually mess with Mrs. Greene's kidney donor."

Cedric looked at her and asked, "Why do you think that?"

Noelle explained, "Laura surely must've realized that there's nothing she can do about Mrs. Merlock's situation by now. She's now at rock bottom. What she wants the most right now is to latch onto you.

"That's why I think that she must still have a trump card hidden up her sleeve. She wouldn't have asked to meet you at the hotel otherwise."

She believed that Laura had finally started to regret her own actions, but it was already too late to do so.
