No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 1028

Noelle replied, "I'm not gloating or anything. I just pity you for willingly sinking so low as a person. Besides, there has never been any competition between us since the very beginning. Cedric never liked you."

With that, she turned around and left the room.

Cedric stood outside and spoke up calmly. "Let's go. There's no point in talking to someone like her."

Laura heard his voice and shouted desperately, "Cedric, come in! I have something to say to you!"

But all she could see was his shadow outside the room, walking away from her, leaving the room silent once more.

She lay on the bed in despair as she realized that her life was completely ruined.

She could not understand why and how things had ended up like this for her.

Laura did not know how much time had passed before someone finally entered the room once more.

She grew hopeful as she said, "Cedric, is that you? I knew you'd come back for me."

"It's me," Samantha replied.

She untied Laura and explained, "Laura, why do you still refuse to see the truth? Mom's already been taken away, and our family is about to go bankrupt. You should stop trying to take the fall for Mom. It's pointless."

Upon being freed, Laura immediately slapped Samantha across the face. "Who are you to say that to me?! Would I have ended up like this if you weren't so fucking useless?!"

Samantha was on the verge of tears. "Laura, I know that I'm useless. But even though you're so smart and did so many things, you still never managed to achieve anything.

"Your reputation is now in ruins. Have you seen what everyone has been saying about you online yet?"

"Stop talking."

Laura was also about to cry. She had not been looking at the online news, as she was terrified of all the hate for her.

Samantha's eyes turned red as she replied, "Laura, let's stop. There's nothing we can do to undo what Mom had done, and there's no need to destroy yourself for her."

Laura pointed at Samantha's nose and began to vent all of her pent-up anger on her. "Mom treated you so well, but you won't even help her now. You're fucking useless!

Noelle turned to look at him. "Did you never once suspect the Merlocks after the car accident back then?"

He pursed his lips and replied, "I was shocked, unable to wrap my head around what had just happened back then.

"You'll probably laugh at me for this, but I lived an easy life growing up, so I never took anything seriously. It wasn't until witnessing that car crash with my own eyes that I realized I wasn't as powerful as I thought I was."

He looked rather dazed as he continued, "Who I am no longer matters. In the face of accidents, illness, and even death, I'm no different from that of an ordinary person. There's really no difference."

Noelle looked out at the night sky and replied softly, "But you saved me back then, and you even tried to risk your life to save my parents."

"I hesitated when I saw the driver turn around. There was a very strong smell of gasoline, and the car seemed to be able to explode at any given moment," Cedric replied.

Hearing his recollection caused the memory of that moment to resurface in Noelle's mind.

A scene flashed through her head, and she said, "I saw someone hiding in the bushes nearby."
