When Noelle heard what Cedric said, her eyes immediately turned red. In this world, no one else besides Cedric could understand the grievances she kept buried inside.
For example, there seemed to be nothing wrong with Carl's words on the surface, but she still found them disgusting. Only Cedric had seen through it right away.
Now flustered, Carl turned to her and tried to explain. "That's not what I meant, Noelle. I never intended to guilt-trip you."
But Cedric grabbed him by the collar and growled, "Can you honestly say you weren't thinking of doing this for Noelle just now?"
Carl went silent. He didn't answer because he couldn't deny it.
Alfred couldn't stand it anymore and said, "They were your parents, too, not just hers. Even if you did anything for this case, it was your choice. What does that have to do with Noelle? Aren't they your mom and dad?"
Carl was left speechless. Even if he hadn't meant it that way, his subconscious behavior had revealed everything.
Mia and Grace stepped forward and linked arms with Noelle.
Mia stared at the Liddells and said, "You're the ones holding her back; that's why Mrs. Merlock might not get the death penalty. You should be the ones cleaning up this mess."
Grace nodded. "That's right. Noelle has done everything she could; don't you older brothers feel ashamed? You might as well let her be the elder sister."
The Liddells had nothing to say in response, and none could say a single word of defense.
Blake looked at Noelle and said, "We'll work on it, Noelle. Thank you for pointing out our flaws. I swear we'll work on it."
Noelle sneered. "If every criminal could just say that to the judge and get forgiven, all prisons in the country would just turn into hotels."
Blake was utterly speechless.
