No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 1058

Noelle stepped outside and took a while to calm down. She was truly furious, not just because of the public sentiment swirling online but also because of what Carl had said.

Clicking her tongue, Grace whispered, "Someone stormed in like a knight in shining armor for his beloved. Gotta say he looked kinda hot."

Mia chuckled. "Exactly. While the rest of us were processing what was going on, he was already charging forward."

If Cedric hadn't cared about Noelle so deeply on a regular basis, how else could he have instantly sensed something was wrong with what the Liddells had said? Noelle thought back to Cedric's reaction, and a faint smile surfaced in her eyes. To say she wasn't moved at all would be a lie.

She turned to Mia and asked, "Didn't they say Laura was banned? Why are there still influencers speaking up for her?"

"I thought it was strange, too. I've got people looking into it, and we'll have answers soon. But you don't have to worry too much.

"Back when Mr. Sulton handled cases, he got roasted online all the time. Still, the verdicts were always based on facts and evidence."

Noelle nodded, though she couldn't help thinking that if Ruth managed to escape the death penalty, she would find it disgusting.

Grace tried to comfort her. "Sometimes, I think a life worse than death is the cruelest punishment of all, especially for someone like Mrs. Merlock. As she watches herself lose everything and remembers all that she once had, she'll spend the rest of her days living in misery."

Noelle paused. A fate worse than death? Sure, spending the rest of her life in prison would be a fate worse than death for someone like Ruth.

Still, she pressed her lips and replied, "I want her to pay with blood for what she's done."

Just then, Jeremy walked over. "Then you ought to have a little faith in me, don't you think?"

Noelle looked up to see Jeremy approaching, while Cedric and Alfred walked behind him. She quickly averted her gaze and said to Jeremy, "I just lost my temper because of what Laura said."

Honestly, the Merlocks were like venomous snakes that struck when least expected.

Jeremy glanced at his watch. "The trial is likely going to be delayed by two days, but don't worry. It won't affect anything, so you don't have to feel pressured."
