Noelle noticed the number on the screen and stepped back slightly.
"Go ahead and answer it. Mrs. Greene's probably calling to ask about today's trial. She might've caught wind of it with all the online buzz."
Cedric nodded and walked off to the side to take the call. "What's up, Mom?"
"What's going on with all that noise online? It didn't affect the trial, did it?"
"No, it didn't, but Mrs. Merlock suddenly fainted, and the session was interrupted."
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before Emma replied, "She's always been like that and full of little tricks."
Cedric hummed in reply before asking, "How are you feeling today? Is the treatment working?"
"I'm feeling a little better, and the treatment's helping. As for Noelle, make sure to comfort her. All the drama on the internet won't affect anything. I've called Mrs. Cantrell, and we'll take care of it."
After hanging up, Emma turned to Andrew in front of her and calmly said, "Alright, speak. What else have you been keeping from me?"
Andrew looked uneasy. "What are you talking about, Mrs. Greene? We haven't hidden anything from you."
"Why don't I need surgery anymore? What changed? And why did you transfer my previous attending physician? There must be a reason."
Emma was no fool. She could tell something was off.
Andrew briefly hesitated before saying, "Well… I'm not really in a position to say anything."
"Fine. I'll ask my previous doctor then. He was sent to the police station, wasn't he?" Emma said as she got up.
Andrew finally sighed and decided to confess. "Then… you'd better prepare yourself. Your illness wasn't just a matter of bad luck; it was manufactured."
Emma's expression shifted instantly. "Manufactured?"
He nodded. "That's all I can say. You're smart, so you can surely figure out the rest. Everyone kept this from you for your own good."
As Emma walked out of the office, she could barely stand straight.
After their brief conversation, Noelle said, "I'll get going then."
"Okay."
Even as she turned to leave, she could still feel a pair of eyes following her from behind. Her heart rippled like a pond stirred by a gentle breeze.
After Noelle left, the warmth on Cedric's face vanished. He turned and regrouped with Alfred. "What's the deal with that influencer? Is he courting death?"
Anyone involved in the media should have known by now that the Merlock family had offended too many people. Laura was viewed as a common enemy, and it was shocking to learn that someone had the guts to speak up for her.
"We discovered that the influencer recently checked into a hotel with Laura. She's moved in with him.
"Looks like she's trading sex for favors," Alfred explained, frowning.
He couldn't help but sigh. Laura used to be the top socialite, after all. Now that she was going this far, there was no difference between what she did and selling herself.
