Upon seeing how pale Emma looked, Noelle asked in a low voice, "Was the treatment painful?"
"It was bearable. This was nothing compared to a kidney transplant."
Emma held her hand, and her voice choked with emotion as she murmured, "I'm sorry."
"Why are you suddenly apologizing, Mrs. Greene?"
"I'm so sorry to you. Report the poisoning to the police. This incident can be linked to a car accident from years ago. If it's all exposed together, she'll receive more severe punishment and pay for what she did back then."
Noelle was surprised. "Did Cedric tell you this?"
"No. I figured it out myself. I'm not a fool; how long do you think you can keep it from me?" Emma replied.
She locked her serious gaze on Noelle and continued, "I'll be fine. Don't worry about me. Go ahead and report to the police; I'm willing to testify."
Noelle held her cold hands tightly and reassured her. "There's no rush."
"There is. Let's settle everything once and for all. Otherwise, I'll never be at peace."
A clean cut was better than dragging things out.
Noelle hadn't expected Emma to figure things out on her own. Noticing that Emma seemed very weak, she said, "I'll talk it over with Cedric. You should rest for now and not worry that much."
Emma nodded and closed her eyes for a rest.
Noelle quietly left the room and immediately saw Carl still standing outside, clearly waiting for her. She walked over for the sake of Emma's treatment.
"How is Mrs. Greene's treatment going?" she asked.
"The treatment went fairly well, but the poisoning has been going on for quite some time. We can't guarantee a full recovery," Carl replied.
Her eyes were so full of obvious sarcasm that Carl felt guilty. "We'll work on it and make sure we won't repeat the same mistakes like before. Please… just give us a chance."
A chance? Who would give her past life, the one who'd died such a miserable death, a chance then?
Noelle smiled coldly. "I don't need it. I'll give myself my chances."
This life had given her a fresh start, and she would rely on herself to walk forward.
With that, Noelle turned and left.
Carl stood there, and his expression darkened as he watched her walk away. "Why won't she give us a chance? This life hasn't been that bad, hasn't it?"
So why? He couldn't understand.
