Carl's tone sounded confident and more than a little arrogant.

Frank, however, sounded concerned. "Carl, right now, the best thing we can do is quietly make up for the past and avoid making Noelle resent us more. Don't think about targeting the Greenes; that'll only bring trouble to the Liddells."

The Greene family was the most powerful in Yasnia, after all. The Liddells could never offend them, regardless. No matter how arrogant or daring Xenia's mom might be, she dared not show herself and clearly feared Cedric.

However, Carl didn't seem to take his words seriously. "What are you worried about, Frank? Don't all renowned families shift and change with time? No one's saying the Liddells can't surpass the Greenes one day."

Donovan even looked pleased. "I think Carl's right. Who knows if the Liddells might surpass the Greenes? If the Merlocks hadn't schemed against us back then, we would've made our mark in Yasnia."

Blake nodded along. "With Carl as our bridge, I believe all renowned families would show us respect. The Liddell family won't be inferior to the Greene family in the future, and by then, we'll be the ones backing Noelle."

Frank glanced at Carl uneasily. It was true that the Liddell family growing stronger was a good thing, but he couldn't shake the feeling that there was a different implication in Carl's tone. It sounded eerily unsettling.

He couldn't help but ask, "Carl, what exactly are you planning?"

Donovan interjected, "Leave this to me and Carl. You don't have to worry that much, and you should just focus more on Noelle. Isn't that what you've always wanted to do anyway?"

Frank frowned, but seeing that Carl didn't intend to say more, he knew there was no point pressing the issue now. That was fine. He would just keep a close watch, and if anything happened on this side, he'd know right away.

No matter what, he would never allow anything to harm Noelle again.

Meanwhile, Noelle and Cedric left the funeral home. They sat in the passenger seat before she asked, "Do you think they'll actually get anything useful out of that lawyer?"

"Not likely, but they might get a few clues. Since the other side knows the lawyer's been captured, they've definitely taken countermeasures by now."

"I thought the same, but it still works in our favor. From now on, anyone she sends out has to be prepared to be investigated or retaliated against."
