Tears welled up in Emma's eyes. "Noelle, we owe you an apology."
Noelle shook her head. "Mrs. Greene, you were also a victim of the Merlock family's schemes. I did hate you at first, but once I learned just how cruel Mrs. Merlock was, I realized you were just caught in the crossfire."
Emma wiped her tears. "But you've suffered a lot."
"And you were poisoned and nearly killed. Doesn't that count as suffering, too?" Noelle looked at Emma seriously. "I'll talk it over with Cedric and find a solution."
Just then, Cedric walked into the hospital room. He wore a white shirt with a suit jacket draped over his arm, seeming to have rushed over from work.
Emma looked up. "Cedric, you're here. It must be hectic lately, right?"
Cedric shrugged. "It's alright. I've dealt with most issues."
Emma nodded. "Then let's talk business. You both seem busy. Once this is resolved, I won't be a burden to you anymore."
Noelle turned to Cedric. "Have you thought of a treatment plan?"
Cedric sighed. "The hospital director is trying to find one, but Carl's men developed the antidote. There's no way to study it. At least not in the short term."
Noelle's expression turned solemn. "So we still have to rely on Carl."
Emma spoke up. "But he won't be staying here forever, right? Once your family's lawsuit ends, he'll have no reason to remain. I could just go to the island with him."
"No."
"No way." Noelle and Cedric said at the same time.
Emma looked at them. "Let me go. I want to live, but I also don't want to see you two struggle."
