Noelle hesitated for a while before eventually putting down her phone.

Cedric walked up to her and asked, "What's wrong?"

She put her phone away, not wanting for him to see anything. "It's nothing."

But Cedric had already seen Carl's name on her phone. He could tell what Noelle was thinking.

He took her hand and said, "Believe in Mia. She'll definitely pull through."

Noelle could not hold herself straight and leaned into his arms.

There was only one thing that could make waiting for results be agonizing, which was waiting to see if someone made it between life and death.

Nobody knew just how much time had passed before the emergency room's doors finally opened.

A doctor walked out and said, "The surgery was very successful, but the patient will still be in critical condition for tonight. She'll most likely be fine if she makes it through tonight. We've already did our best, but if she ended up getting an infection—"

Eugene rushed forward. "What do you mean that you've already done your best?! Is this your fucking best?!"

Cedric pulled him back. "Don't be like this, Eugene. The doctor still needs to keep an eye on Mia's condition. Who's going to operate on her if you hurt him?"

Eugene immediately let go and pleaded with the doctor. "Please, save Mia."

The doctor let out a sigh and replied, "I'll do everything I can."

Noelle turned to the doctor and said, "Wait, what did you mean by infection?"

"The patient had several broken ribs that punctured her lungs. We did our absolute best during the surgery, but if she had gotten any infections, it could lead to multiple organ failures."

"Is there any way to prevent the infection from happening?" Noelle asked.

"With medicine, of course. We've already used the best medicine available, but we can't guarantee her safety completely."

Noelle turned around and walked away after hearing the doctor's explanation.
