No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 1383

Cedric tore open the package to reveal an old keypad phone.

"This must be from the kidnappers," he said flatly.

Just as he spoke, the phone started ringing, and he answered immediately. "Hello, this is Cedric speaking."

"You're Ms. Liddell's boyfriend, right? She's with us, and if you want her back, transfer funds to this account."

"Fine. Where do you want to make the exchange?"

"This is too much money to be handed over in person. Wire it to this account, and we'll release her once we see the money's cleared."

Cedric's grip tightened around the phone as he pressed on, "How do I know if you're lying, or if you won't just flee once you get the money? You're already planning to slip through the borders, aren't you?"

"We were, but your people have found us, haven't they? This is your territory, so we have to be extra careful because we can't risk getting caught in your net."

They'd underestimated the Greene family's reach. In just one night, Yasnia had been locked down with teams and men investigating in secret.

As foreigners, they stuck out too much and would surely be hunted down if they stayed any longer in Montrevia. If that happened, they could never escape, no matter how hard they tried.

They were lucky that they followed their superior's instructions to move fast, or Cedric's men would have surrounded them.

Cedric snapped, "But I'm not sending money your way blindly. You have to tell me where you are, and I'll wire it on the spot."

"Who do you think you are to make demands? Your girlfriend's life is in our hands."

"You're as good as dead yourselves if you don't get the money. Word is your boss runs scams from that scam center, so instead of returning to their side, won't it be better if you work for me?"

The caller seemed surprised as he stole a glance at Noelle. "W-Why'd you say the same thing?"
