When Magnus brought up his visit to Factory Lane, he looked like he was on the verge of collapse.
As the dignified CEO of Greene Group, he had to inspect factory sites and work in suffocating heat personally. Just remembering it felt like reliving a nightmare.
Alfred lit up in realization. "Right, I remember that area, too! Since it's an industrial zone, some of the factories have equipment that doesn't meet emission standards, so it's always hotter."
Cedric looked over and added, "What matters most is that if you follow the ridgeline behind the factories, you can reach the border pretty quickly."
Alfred frowned. "But that mountain isn't easy to cross. Even experienced hikers and trekkers have had serious accidents in the area.
"I heard it's got some weird magnetic fields, so GPS signals and compasses screw up pretty often."
Cedric let out a slow breath before he instructed, "Head over now. Send our men to seal off the whole area and inspect every suspicious vehicle."
Now, they confirmed the abductors were planning to slip over the mountain and cross the border. But Cedric was confident that since they now had a general idea, it was just a matter of time before they found Noelle.
…
Meanwhile, Noelle was stuck in a van that had broken down by the side of the road. Sipping her iced soda, she peered through the window at the abductors pushing the dead van and almost felt bad for them.
She turned to the driver, Joe Cook, and asked, "Didn't you guys come here fully prepared? Why are you living in cheap rented apartments and driving this broken-down car? It seems almost like your organization's a joke."
"This is all that bitch's idea! She planned it all and kept the good money for herself, so that we couldn't find her."
"Now that you mention it, it all makes sense. Ivy rigged the whole thing to stop y'all from coming to Montrevia and tracking her down."
Noelle was almost amused by the thought that Ivy's crappy arrangements had flipped in her favor.
"Shut up!" Joe snapped angrily at her.
