Noelle couldn't help but sneer. The Liddell brothers were truly arrogant. Even after everything that had happened, Donovan still acted like he was granting her a favor.
Did he think being his sister was some kind of honor?
She was utterly speechless and didn't respond for a long time, while Donovan mistook her silence for hesitation.
He continued, "Noelle, I know you returned to the Liddell family for Mom and Dad's inheritance. You don't want Xenia to have it. If you're sincere about coming back this time, I promise to treat you fairly and won't favor Xenia anymore."
Now, he realized Xenia was utterly useless to the Liddell family. She was nothing but a burden.
"No, you're lying. You're only saying this because you see how close I am to Mia. You want to use me to keep her on your side," Noelle said, exposing Donovan's scheme.
She watched Mia's expression change and shot her a reassuring look. Then, she continued, "Mr. Liddell, do you think I'm a fool? Just because you're trying to appease me after all the harm done, you think I'll come crawling back to you?"
She was human and not a dog. Perhaps to her brothers all those years ago, she'd been nothing more than an obedient pet.
"Not everyone is as petty as you are, Noelle. I'm giving you an easy way out, but since you refuse to take it, don't regret this later." Donovan's voice was cold and strained, as if he were grinding his teeth.
With that, he hung up.
Noelle looked up at Mia. "Donovan has always been self-righteous and convinced he's never wrong. Everyone else is."
Even now, calling her was just to use her as a means to pull Mia closer to the Liddell family. Yet, he still acted high and mighty. Since the other brothers received Donovan's teachings all this while, they weren't much better.
