Cedric's expression darkened. "Shut your mouth."
Laura smirked. "See? You're nervous. I thought you had nothing left to fear. But it turns out even you have your breaking point."
Cedric shrugged. "I actually planned to tell Noelle myself, Laura. But I should thank you for doing it on my behalf if you tell her first."
Laura bit her lip until she tasted blood. Cedric was truly ruthless. She sneered. "In your dreams. I won't be the one to do that for you. I want you to tell her yourself. I want you both to feel that same torment."
They would never be together! With that, she turned to leave.
But Cedric's voice rang from behind her. "You'd better not do anything reckless. If you commit a crime, it'll only add to your punishment."
He was testing the waters, trying to figure out if Xenia was with the Merlocks. But Laura looked surprised.
"Since you've made it clear you won't help, then what I do has nothing to do with you. You can't order me around. My mother is innocent!"
She wasn't going to give up so easily. This wasn't over yet. The winner hadn't been decided. She stormed off, fuming.
Cedric withdrew his gaze and turned to his assistant. "Send someone to watch the Merlock family closely, especially Laura."
He kept thinking about what she had said earlier. Would she really tell Noelle the truth? It felt like a knife was hanging over his head, ready to drop at any moment.
The assistant hesitated. "Mr. Greene, should I still make the reservation for tonight's dinner at L Bistro?"
It was obvious Cedric was in a foul mood. The secretary was worried they had overheard something they shouldn't have. Would they be killed for this?
Cedric looked up. "Yes. Make sure everything's properly arranged."
The assistant nodded. Of course, Cedric was different. He could switch gears at any moment. Soon, Cedric's phone rang. He glanced at the screen but didn't answer. The call kept coming.
