In the car, Noelle turned to stare at the slap mark on Cedric's face. She asked, "Does it hurt?"
Cedric smiled. "No."
Noelle grabbed a bottle of water from the car and gently pressed it to his cheek. "As expected of your mother. She didn't hold back."
Cedric saw the weird angle at which Noelle was holding the bottle, so he reached out and took it from her.
Noelle looked at him. "Mrs. Merlock probably knows by now. You'll get a scolding if both families find out," just like what had happened today.
"You're overthinking it. Aside from my mother, the rest of the family doesn't really like the Merlocks. Especially my grandmother. If she weren't sick, the Merlocks wouldn't even be allowed anywhere near us."
Noelle was surprised. "Really?"
"I've got no reason to lie to you." Cedric looked at her seriously, his eyes lingering on her face. "Why were you there today?"
Noelle avoided his gaze and tried to look nonchalant. "I was out shopping with some friends. Since I was nearby, I figured I'd send you a message."
Cedric pulled out his phone and checked. Sure enough, there was a message from her. He said, "I didn't see it. I was too busy dealing with the Merlocks."
Noelle nodded. "I know. I saw you coming out of the building."
Cedric turned to her. "I'll handle everything with the Merlocks. If my mother shows up again with them, call me immediately. You don't need to entertain them. There's no reason to talk to them at all."
Noelle nodded. "Oh, I ran into Laura at the mall today. She said Xenia's in her hands."
