No longer a pushover (Noelle and Cedric) novel Chapter 983

Noelle looked up at Carl in a daze. In truth, she hadn't spent much time with Carl in her previous life. He was always buried in his research, living year-round in a remote island lab.

If she remembered correctly, Carl hadn't returned home even once in her last life. The only time they met was on the operating table.

After all, no one knew that their parents' deaths were connected to Xenia's father and the Merlocks.

She and Carl were distant.

And yet, she had admired him in her past life and always looked up to him. She had believed she would never cross Carl. But in the end, he was the one who operated on her and removed her kidney.

She still remembered how helpless she was at that moment. A sneer flashed through Noelle's eyes at the memory.

A second later, Carl reached out to her. But Noelle instinctively flinched away. No matter how gentle he might seem, she would never forget the pain she felt on the operating table.

Carl's hand hung awkwardly in the air. He said calmly, "Noelle, it's been years. You've grown."

Noelle replied flatly, "It'd be a problem if I hadn't grown after all these years."

Donovan frowned. "Noelle, Carl was just being nice. What's with the tone?"

Carl waved him away. "Donovan, I've been away for so long. It's only natural that we've grown distant. I understand."

The new butler quickly pulled Xenia toward the memorial photos. Xenia had no choice but to do as they said through gritted teeth. She swore she would leave the family once she had given birth.

Noelle stood by and watched as Xenia paid respects. It was only then that she felt a little better.

She was reminded of her past life when she saw Xenia and her brothers chatting. The humiliation of being kept in the dark in her last life still made Noelle angry.

Carl turned to her. "Do you feel better now?"

Noelle looked indifferent. "Even if I do, it still won't bring Mom and Dad back."
