No More Mrs. Forgotten novel Chapter 5

The words 'I'm pregnant too' died in Sharon's throat.

York pressed on, "Emeline truly needs me right now! She's been through hell. Can't you show a little compassion? Besides, the baby she's carrying is Caleb's! Can't you look at the bigger picture, take good care of her, and make sure that baby is born safe and healthy? Do you really have to pull your ridiculous spoiled-princess act at a time like this?"

Sharon opened her mouth, but like a fish out of water, no sound came out. She had a million things she wanted to say. She was furious. She wanted to scream, to yell, to curse at him.

But in the end, it all dissolved into a hollow sense of exhaustion. She fell silent.

York didn't hang up. After a moment of silence, he finally said, "Enough. Stop pouting. Come home tomorrow."

He knew she had nowhere else to go but her parents' house.

Hearing this, Sharon let out a soft laugh, though her vision was completely blurred with tears. "York," she murmured softly.

He frowned, offering no response.

She said his name again, "York."

Impatient, York crushed out his cigarette. "What exactly do you..."

"Let's get a divorce," Sharon interrupted.

York froze, likely too stunned to process the words. It took him several seconds to respond. "Are you out of your mind?"

"A divorce," Sharon repeated, her voice eerily calm. "I'm tired."

With that, she hung up the phone.

And yet... the tears finally fell.

Divorce...

She had actually... never considered it before. She had loved him for a decade, throwing away every ounce of her pride and fiery spirit just to be with him. She had believed that if she poured her entire soul into him, he would eventually love her back, even just a little.

And their relationship had indeed been improving.

But that microscopic progress shattered the second Emeline entered the picture! All Emeline had to do was show up, and Sharon's two years of marital devotion were rendered completely meaningless.

Even if she wasn't at the house, York was hellbent on bringing Emeline home to take care of her.

Heh! So, he was determined to be Emeline's rock, her ultimate, unbreakable protector, right?

How romantic!
