“And there’s another reason I asked you to come in,” Alfred continued.

Zoey’s eyes reddened. “What is it?”

“You ruined the flowers in my garden. Go apologize to Nella properly.”

Zoey’s voice rose instinctively.

But when she met the chill in Alfred’s eyes, it dropped back down.

“I didn’t do it on purpose that day.”.”

She lowered her head, tears slipping down as if she’d rehearsed it.

She looked pitiful and fragile.

“You were covered in blood that day. I was scared, and then I got triggered. I couldn’t control myself. That’s why I-”

“You’ve been seeing someone for that for years now, right?” Alfred interrupted suddenly.

Zoey’s crying stopped abruptly.

Her tear-filled eyes looked at Alfred’s indifferent expression in confusion.

She nodded uneasily. “Yes… it’s been many years.”

“You should probably see a new doctor,” Alfred said.
