“Alfred, I really didn’t do that. How could I ever tell Nella to divorce you?

“That day in the elevator, Nella asked about our trip to Askine to see the aurora. I explained that there was nothing between us and that you only went with me because my depression flared up and you wanted to help me relax.

“But as soon as I finished saying that, she got angry. After we got out of the elevator, she said I was a mistress and that I was deliberately seducing you. The people at the hospital believed her and pointed at me, calling me shameless…

“Later, you hurt your hand because of me. I felt guilty and scared, so I had another episode and destroyed Nella’s garden. I’ll apologize to her. I promise.”

After finishing her explanation, Zoey looked at Alfred pitifully.

She thought he would soften after hearing all that.

But Alfred’s gaze no longer held any of the warmth or indulgence he once showed her. Only an unmelting chill gathered in his eyes.

He slowly stood up from his chair and walked toward her.

His dark eyes carried an oppressive pressure that made it impossible to meet his gaze as he looked down at Zoey.

Zoey stared at Alfred, her face as white as paper.

He still looked like the same Alfred who used to speak to her gently.

But those eyes made her feel afraid for no reason.

Hearing that Alfred wanted her to change doctors, Zoey shook her head nonstop.

“No, Alfred. I won’t change. I only want Dr. Kain. I don’t want to switch doctors.”

She forced a stiff smile onto her face.

“I won’t disturb you at work anymore. I’ll leave now.”

With that, she turned and hurried toward the door.

“It’s fine if you won’t switch doctors. At least go give Nella a proper apology.”

Alfred’s voice came from behind her.

Zoey stumbled, nearly losing her balance.

Her fingers dug tightly into her palms. Fear and anger made her knuckles turn white.

“Okay.”

She opened the door and walked out, her expression instantly turning vicious.

I never expected that woman to be so scheming, to even show Alfred the hospital surveillance footage.

She walked out of the CEO’s office with a dark expression.

The secretaries in the CEO’s office, unaware of what had happened, all stood up to greet her as she passed.
