Chapter 115 The Right Distance
Alfred had never thought that, in his lifetime, there’d be something so much harder than negotiating a project.
“Forget it. I’ll pick her up today and explain it to her in person.”
He tossed the phone aside and forced down the agitation in his chest.
He grabbed the stack of documents on his desk and stared at them distractedly.
But even though they were the same familiar words, he couldn’t absorb a single line.
By late afternoon, just before the end of the workday, Alfred left the company early.
“You can clock out. Leave the car.”
Alfred took the car keys from the driver and sent him away.
“But, Mr. Keywood, your hand hasn’t healed yet. Driving might affect your injury.”
Alfred glanced at the hand still wrapped in gauze and suddenly thought of something.
“It’s fine. I’ll be careful.”
Since Alfred insisted, Richie couldn’t stop him.
Alfred got into the driver’s seat and drove one-handed toward Apex Medical University Hospital.
At the hospital.
“So? Are you satisfied with that place?”
While changing after work, Jasmine asked Nella.

At noon, Nella had gone to see the apartment Jasmine mentioned, owned by a friend’s brother.
The location was great, right next to the hospital.
It was less than 100 yards from the hospital gate. It was extremely convenient.
For her, it saved both time and energy.
More importantly, the owner allowed her to keep a dog.

“It’s great. Marshal can be discharged tomorrow. I’ll go pick him up. After that, I should be living there.”
Hearing this, Jasmine hesitated for a moment before asking, “Nella, have you really decided?”
Nella knew what Jasmine meant and nodded without hesitation.
“Yeah. I’d been on the fence before, but after adopting Marshal, I finally made up my mind to move out.”
Alfred didn’t allow dogs in the house.
She had to be realistic about that.
“And anyway, there’s only a little over a month left. As long as I cooperate with Alfred and play the role of a married couple when needed, it won’t matter much to him if I don’t live in the house.”
Jasmine nodded.
She suddenly remembered the day Alfred came to the hospital in the rain to pick Nella up and felt that he did seem to have some feelings for her.
But she didn’t say it out loud.
Her own marriage with Mason was a mess. What right did she have to advise Nella?
“I’m on overnight duty tonight. I’ll have the whole day off tomorrow. I’ll go back, pack a bit, and then pick up Marshal.”
Thinking about the life ahead, different from the past three years, Nella’s words were filled with anticipation.
“Do you need help?”
“No. I don’t have much to pack. Two suitcases will be enough.”
Nella shook her head.
Even though she’d signed that contract intending to build a relationship with Alfred, deep down, she’d always kept a sense of boundaries.
She tested the waters carefully, maintaining just the right distance.
She never dared let her personal belongings invade Alfred’s space.
So even though most of the place had been decorated by her, there weren’t many things that

truly belonged to her.
Days ago, she’d already packed up everything she needed to take with her.
