Chapter 140 I Don’t Accept Your Apology
“I really didn’t mean it, Alfred. Please forgive me.”
Zoey carefully reached out and tugged at Alfred’s sleeve.
If this had been before, Alfred would have softened toward her long ago.
But now, seeing Zoey like this, Alfred only felt exhausted and irritated.
He pressed his fingers to his temples in frustration. “Since you know your behavior was rash, go apologize to Nella.”
A flash of shock crossed Zoey’s eyes.
She hadn’t expected that even after showing such weakness, Alfred would still make her apologize to that bitch, Nella.
She bit her lower lip hard, her face filled with reluctance.
But seeing the growing impatience in Alfred’s eyes, she still approached Nella reluctantly.
“That won’t be necessary.”
Nella refused before Zoey could open her mouth.
A glint of triumph flashed in Zoey’s eyes.
She knew Nella wouldn’t dare to make her apologize.
Alfred had always doted on her so much. Right now, he was just putting on a show in front of outsiders because of the livestream.
Nella was just a bitch. How could she deserve an apology?
She gave Nella a look of cool approval-the kind you’d give a subordinate who had finally learned her place.
But before she could retract that smug expression, she heard Nella continue, “I don’t accept your apology.”
Her gaze cold, she looked at Zoey’s twisted expression. “Ms. Mack, you should know better than I do why the anticoagulant dosage was insufficient.”
Nella’s words made Zoey’s expression shift dramatically.

Nella’s words were actually meant to bluff Zocy.
She remembered the caregiver’s unusual reaction when Patrick had his incident the night before.
Since the hospital’s involvement had been ruled out, that only left a problem with the nursing
care.
And since that caregiver had no grudge against her, so there was no reason to frame her using someone else’s life.
Combined with Zoey’s hostility toward her, she could vaguely guess the truth.
But it was only a guess.
That was why she spoke to bluff Zoey.
But Zoey couldn’t hide the panic in her eyes. With just one bluff, she had exposed herself.
“Ms. Mack, Patrick is your brother. No matter how much hostility you have toward me, you shouldn’t play with your brother’s life.”
Nella said this in a calm tone, but it shocked Zoey so much that her steps faltered, and she nearly fell.
“What do you mean? Are you saying I would play with my brother’s life to frame you?”
Zoey’s voice rose involuntarily, her guilty conscience showing.
She looked at Alfred with reddened eyes and choked out, “Alfred, did you hear that? Is this the explanation their hospital is giving us? They’re making me the scapegoat?”
Alfred didn’t answer, only looked at Nella with a complicated expression.
But Nella didn’t look at him and said to Zoey, “I hope Ms. Mack can stay this tough.”
“Nella, you’re going too far.”
Norris said with a dark expression. “You can’t just shirk responsibility however you want just because Alfred is backing you up.”
Then he looked at Alfred. “Alfred, Caleb just said he would give us an explanation in three days. But before things are even clear, Nella is trying to throw Zoey under the bus. That’s not right, is
it?”
