Alfred’s chest tensed the moment he saw her move. The question slipped out before he even realized it, his voice tighter than he knew.

Nella turned calmly, not a hint of panic. “I haven’t been sleeping well. I don’t want to keep you awake. I’m going to the guest room.”

Alfred’s expression darkened instantly.

His eyes cut into her, sharp as knives. “You want to sleep in a separate room?” His voice was icy.

She caught the anger in him, but she ignored it.

She really didn’t want to share a room with him, and honestly, she didn’t have the patience to

argue.

Still, she kept her cool and said calmly, “You’ve got work. Sleep is important. Separate rooms are better for both of us.”

Alfred glared, his lips tight.

She was too calm-so calm that even after he left her alone in Glacieroth for half a month without a word, she hadn’t lost her temper.

And now, she was thinking about his rest and suggesting a separate room.

He couldn’t help smirking, eyes glinting with mockery. The wife he chose was so “considerate” and “easygoing”!

Anger bubbled up inside him, clawing at his chest, but he kept it in check, forcing himself not to snap at her.

He exhaled slowly and spoke in a flat voice, “Nella, we’re married.”

She nodded. “I know.”

In just two months, that bond would be over.

That was exactly why she wanted a clean break, ending this contract marriage with some dignity.

Chapter 15 I Can’t Sleep Well

“So… why sleep apart if we’re married?”

He rubbed his forehead, trying to stay patient.

Nella pursed her lips, feeling her patience run out. She said again, “I can’t sleep well. I might disturb you.”

Same old answer. He could even sense how casual and half-hearted she sounded.

He stared at her calm face, clicking his tongue in

annoyance.

Pulling at his collar, hands on his hips, he paced back and forth, frustrated.

Nella had zero interest in watching him march around. She grabbed her blanket and moved toward the door.

The moment she tried to leave, Alfred stepped in front of her. She looked up into his intense

gaze.

After ten years of a quiet crush and nearly three years of marriage, she could tell he was right at the edge of losing it.

Alfred always had a temper. Nobody dared push him, so hardly anyone ever saw him snap.

Nella braced herself for the outburst. But he didn’t yell. He just stared at her, forcing the anger down.

“Nella, I don’t have time to guess your feelings. If you’re mad, say it straight. Don’t make a scene and leave me guessing over and over.”

She looked at him, almost laughing from how ridiculous and frustrating that sounded.
