Chapter 155 I’m Sorry

Nella’s existence was like a disease embedded in his bones. When it didn’t flare up, Alfred barely felt it.
But once it did, the pain was so intense he couldn’t even straighten his back.
He slumped onto the couch, his chest painfully constricted.
That sense of panic and helplessness only made him more lost.
After a long moment, he took out his phone. His fingers trembled as he found Nella’s number in his contacts and dialed it.
At that moment, Nella had just picked Marshal up from Blessed Paw.
After his recovery, Marshal was full of energy.
His golden fur had been groomed until it gleamed.
“Marshal, from today on, you’re going to live here with me, okay? Do you like it?”
Marshal seemed to understand.
His soft pink tongue happily licked Nella’s palm, then he rolled over and showed his belly right in front of
her.
Nella was laughing when her phone suddenly rang.
She picked it up and glanced at the screen. The bright smile on her face instantly disappeared.
She answered the call. “Hello?”
“You … moved out?”
Alfred’s hoarse voice came from the other end, carrying a barely perceptible tremor.
Nella thought for a moment, then said, “Yeah. I won’t be going back to Emerald Vista Bay. If you need me somewhere, just call me.”
The person on the other end seemed to choke on his words and fell silent.
Nella didn’t have time to guess how Alfred was feeling. Seeing Marshal wolfing down his puppy food, she quickly reminded him, “Don’t eat so fast. You’ll choke.”
After saying that, she added to Alfred on the phone, “If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”
“Heh.”
A soft scoff came from the other end. “So now you’re living with your puppy?”
Nella hummed in response, not denying it.
“Is he that stupid? He can’t even eat without you watching him, afraid he’ll choke to death?”

Nella heard the hostility toward Marshal in his words and didn’t bother arguing. She only replied, “Of course, he can’t compare to how smart you are, Mr. Keywood. If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up”
After saying that, without waiting for Alfred to speak, Nella hung up first.
She really didn’t want to hear a single unfriendly word about Marshal from Alfred.
She scooped Marshal, who was still devouring his puppy food, into her arms and said, “He called you stupid. Can you believe that guy? You’re the smartest puppy ever.”
Marshal understood and happily lifted his head, licking Nella’s chin.
Alfred stared at his disconnected phone, the repeated busy tone sounding like mockery.
Nella protects that kept man so fiercely. Even I, her lawful husband, can’t compare.
How ridiculous!
Furious, Alfred tossed his phone aside and slumped back against the couch.
He didn’t know how long he sat there before his phone rang again. It was Sergio calling.
“Mr. Keywood, Patrick’s cause of illness has been identified. I’ve sent the report to your inbox.”
After hanging up, Alfred opened his private inbox.
Inside was an email Sergio had sent a minute earlier.
As he opened the attachment, his gaze grew darker until it finally turned icy.
At the same time, a video was rapidly spreading online.
In the video, Zoey looked distraught as she curled up in the corner of her bed, repeatedly murmuring, “Nella, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. I’m sorry…”
