Chapter 186 No Need to Forgive
But why must I forgive?
What if I refuse to let it go?
So Nella truly didn’t care how Alfred saw her right now, or whether he’d be angry because of it.
When she cared about him, whatever he said went.
When she didn’t, he didn’t matter at all.

She was already prepared for Alfred to criticize her, yet she only heard him give a low grunt, and then he said nothing more.
“Don’t get the wrong idea. I was just worried she might have a depressive episode while she’s locked up and that the Macks would blame you. That’s why I asked.”
After a while, Nella suddenly heard Alfred offer that explanation.
She was surprised for a moment, then quickly composed herself.
“I’ll make sure she gets the best doctors,” She replied flatly.
She’d only seen Zoey’s depression flare up once. Before that, she’d only heard about it from Alfred.
But that one time, she’d already felt something was off.
She wasn’t a specialist. Even if it didn’t seem right, she couldn’t jump to conclusions.
Besides, even if it was all fake, Alfred would be the one deceived, not her.
She had no obligation to waste energy on something so pointless.
Alfred’s grip on the steering wheel tightened.
He clearly felt Nella’s indifference toward him.
If they hadn’t agreed to get along peacefully according to the contract, she probably wouldn’t even bother responding.
As they neared the hospital, Nella spoke again.
“Just drop me at the entrance.”
“Alright,” Alfred replied heavily, the darkness in his eyes unreadable.
The car slowly pulled over. Nella opened the door and got out.
“Nella.”
Just as she was closing the door, Alfred suddenly called out to her.

Chapter 186 No Need to Forgive
She paused and turned back, questioning in her eyes.
Finished
This was the first time Alfred had called her with such an affectionate tone after she’d stopped expecting anything.
It was oddly ironic.
People always say that once you finally get what you’ve longed for, it doesn’t feel special anymore.
That was exactly how she felt now.
Hearing him call her so intimately, finally getting the “exception” she once hoped for, yet feeling none of the old joy or excitement.
“Is there something else?”
Nella looked at him calmly.
Alfred pressed his lips together and said, “We’re going to Keywood Estate for dinner tonight. Dad and Priscilla are back. You … free tonight?”
Nella froze.
A family gathering was inevitable.
Since she’d agreed to see the contract through peacefully, she couldn’t back out now.
So she nodded. “Yeah.”
Seeing her agree, a bit of light finally returned to Alfred’s eyes.
“I’ll pick you up after work.”
“No need.”
Nella refused out of habit.
“Keywood Group is in the opposite direction from Apex Medical. It’s too much trouble for you to come over. I’ll take a cab to Keywood Estate. We can meet at the intersection.”
As soon as she said that, the light that had just appeared on Alfred’s face dimmed again, turning cold.
“Everyone around Keywood Estate is someone we know. There are also competitors from Keywood Group nearby. If someone sees us and word gets out, it’ll cause trouble.”
