Chapter 200 Strong Emotions
19 Finished
Nella and Alfred were on two completely different channels, and Nella’s so-called explanations not only failed to calm Alfred down, but they also made him feel even more stifled.
He recalled something he had heard by chance not long ago.
People say what ruins a marriage isn’t fighting. It’s when one person wants to fight and the other retreats into silence, making it impossible to fight at all.
That kind of cold shoulder is the real nightmare.
Nella was doing exactly that to him now.
If silent treatment counted as domestic abuse, he honestly wanted to call the police and report her for abusing him.
Just then, Nella’s phone rang.
She lowered her head to check. It was Jasmine calling.
Nella’s heart suddenly skipped, a flicker of unease passing through her chest.
The moment she picked up, Jasmine’s anxious voice came through,
“Nella, Marshal’s missing.”
“Marshal’s missing?”
Nella’s voice rose uncontrollably with panic.
It also made Alfred, who had been driving in sullen silence, glance over at her.
He saw her face turn deathly pale in an instant, completely different from the calm, almost indifferent expression she’d had when speaking to him earlier.
He frowned, the bitterness in his chest growing even stronger.
He’s a grown man, for crying out loud. If he’s gone, he’s gone. It’s not like he’d get lost.
Why freak out like this?
“I’m already on my way back. Help me look around nearby first. I’ll be there soon.”
Nella’s voice was trembling.
Apex was friendly toward small animals, but there was no guarantee they wouldn’t run into some lunatic who hated cats and puppies.
If Marshal had been stolen, taken away, or deliberately run over by a car…
Nella didn’t dare think any further. Her entire face was frighteningly pale.

Chapter 200 Strong Emotions
“Alfred, drive faster!”
Her voice was shaking as she urged him, her eyes already red.
Finished
Alfred, stewing in jealousy, finally snapped and said, “If he’s gone, he’s gone. He’s not dumb enough to get lost, right?”
Nella was deep in the terror of Marshal being gone. Hearing Alfred say that, her anger flared instantly.
“Right. He’s not as smart as you, Mr. Keywood. Can you drive faster or not?”
Her voice trembled even more.
Alfred wanted to mock Marshal a few more times, but when he caught the glimmer of tears reflected in Nella’s eyes, the words stuck in his throat.
Shock and disbelief flashed across his face.
From the first day he’d known Nella until now, he had never once seen her eyes redden in front of him.
Even when he’d disappointed her again and again because of Zoey, her emotions had always been steady.
She had never been like this-shaken to the core over that man vanishing.
Jealousy and bitterness rushed straight to his head. He gripped the steering wheel tightly, his face turning cold as he said in a low voice, “Nella, is he really that good? Good enough that you can’t let him go?”
At this point, Nella had no energy to question why Alfred was still competing with a puppy with the brains of a toddler.
Seeing they had already reached the city area, she directly unbuckled her seat belt and reached for the door, preparing to get out.
“Nella, are you crazy?!”
Alfred noticed her movement and felt his scalp go numb, a chill rushing from the top of his head down his spine to his feet.
He pulled the car over to the side of the road.
