No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 221

Chapter 221 Taking Meds.

Finished

She walked to the front door. Pulling the bottle of pills from her purse, she shook a few into her hand and went to the kitchen to get water.

She downed them just as Alfred stepped out of the bathroom. His brows furrowed when he saw her.

“What are you taking? Are you sick?”

Nella shook her head. “It’s supplements.”

She set the glass on the counter and walked back to the couch.

When she saw Alfred come out wearing nothing but a towel, her brow twitched again.

“Call Richie. Have him drive you home.”

Alfred looked down at his bare chest. “You expect me to leave like this?”

Nella kept her voice steady.

“Have Richie bring you something clean to change into when he gets here.”

She looked off to the side.

“It’s not ideal for you to stay. I don’t have anything here for you to wear.

“And about the rumors of us living apart-once your PR team has a plan, I’ll cooperate. Barring living together, of course.”

Alfred went quiet. His lips pressed together.

He dropped his gaze. A long pause followed before he finally spoke.

“You really can’t stand living under the same roof with me?”

Nella’s body froze for a beat. “No. It’s uncomfortable.”

She didn’t soften it. She didn’t care how it hit him.

“Thanks for helping with Marshal tonight.”

She glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already past eleven.

Alfred caught the shift in her tone. She wanted him gone. The sting hit harder than he expected.

So this was what it was like. When someone didn’t want you, it didn’t matter what you tried.

His eyes flickered with sarcasm and something darker.

After another beat of silence, he muttered, “Fine.”

He pulled out his phone, called Richie, and gave him the rundown. Then he came back and sat on the

couch.

He glanced at Nella. Then his eyes drifted to Marshal, who was sound asleep in his bed.

“We don’t need to live together. But we do need to talk about Marshal.”

Seriously? What about Marshal?

Nella’s whole face tensed. She remembered every insult Alfred had thrown about Marshal before.

“If this is about getting rid of him again, don’t waste your breath.”

Sure, Alfred had treated Marshal okay tonight. But it didn’t erase the crap he’d pulled before.

Alfred could tell she’d jumped to the worst conclusion. It twisted something in his chest.

“I’m not asking you to give him up.”

He raised both hands. His voice was calm but firm.

“I really like Marshal.”

Nella stared at him, eyes full of doubt and wariness.

She didn’t trust this sudden change. Not for a second.

The way he’d acted when Marshal went missing? He looked like he was ready to celebrate.

Alfred saw that disbelief in her eyes and let out a bitter laugh.

He dropped his gaze and said, “I thought that little dog was some college guy you were hooking up with. That’s why I wanted you to get rid of him.”

Nella blinked. “What?”

What did he just say?

This whole time, he thought Marshal was a guy?

They’d been talking past each other for weeks?

They weren’t even arguing about the same thing.

No wonder Alfred got all nasty every time the name came up. He thought Marshal was her side piece?
