No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 240

Chapter 240 Calm Conversation

“We’re getting divorced. A kid would just complicate things, don’t you think?”

Finished

Nella said it like it was no big deal. Her tone was light, as if she were shooting down a business pitch that wasn’t worth funding.

Alfred pressed his lips tight.

He looked like he had more to say, but Nella shut him down before he could try.

“Let’s head out. No point keeping anyone waiting.”

She walked straight toward the garage without looking back.

Alfred didn’t move right away. He just stood there in silence before slowly trailing behind her.

The ski resort.

By the time Alfred brought Nella to the lodge, the Keywood Group crew had already rolled in.

Just about the entire company had shown up for the weekend retreat.

Even the ones who hated giving up their Saturdays were all smiles this time. The double-pay offer had sealed the deal.

“Mr. and Mrs. Keywood are here!”

Someone called it out, loud and clear.

Heads turned across the lot.

“Morning, sir! Morning, ma’am!”

Sergio had made sure to come early with his wife. That bonus had him treating Marshal like the company’s golden goose.

“Mr. Marshal’s here too!”

He rushed over with a bounce in his step and snatched the diaper bag from Nella’s hand like it was the Holy Grail.

Mr. Marshal.

That name almost made Nella gag.

Especially the way Sergio said it, all sugary and over the top. His suck-up face reminded her of some ridiculous TV butler from a satire show.

“Let’s head inside first.”

Alfred had Marshal in his arms as he leaned over to Nella and lowered his voice.

She nodded slightly and glanced toward the snowy slope.

A slow, icy chill started crawling up her back.

She didn’t say a word. She just kept close to Alfred and walked ahead.

As they passed the staff crowd, everyone threw out warm greetings.

“Morning, sir! Morning, ma’am!”

“Hey there, sir! Ma’am!”

“Good morning!”

Nella gave a few faint nods without saying much. Her face stayed empty, like her mind wasn’t even there.

They all grabbed their gear and headed toward the lodge.

Alfred had already prepped her ski suit and the rest of her gear.

She changed at her own pace, but the second she pulled the zipper up, her heart started racing.

When she stepped out of the locker room, Alfred was already there waiting.

He caught her sight and came over, smiling.

“Marshal’s all good. I’ve got two people looking after him. You can actually relax and have fun.”

“Okay.”

Nella barely acknowledged it. “Let’s go. They’re already waiting.”

She’d agreed to come to this thing with Alfred.

Part of it was the contract. But the real reason was that she wanted to find out if she could finally beat her fear of snow.

The second she got here, she realized she’d pushed herself too far.

Since the moment she arrived, she’d felt this frozen pressure on her back. Like a whole layer of snow had just lain across her spine.

The cold kept slipping in, bit by bit.

She didn’t want to let this fear keep running her life. She had to deal with it.

She inhaled deeply, shoved the panic down, and forced her legs to move toward the slope.

The whole resort had been booked out by Keywood Group. Everyone was already suited up and ready to hit

the snow.
