Chapter 242 Still Fearful
She hadn’t gotten over that fear.
She’d just shoved it down and convinced herself it was gone.
She felt frozen. And terrified.
“H-Help…
Her vision blurred. Not a single sound made it past her lips.
Her whole body shook even harder. She couldn’t tell if it was from the cold or the fear..
Alfred noticed right away that something was off.
“Nella, what’s wrong? Why are you shaking like that?”
His face drained. He cupped her cheek and leaned close, calling her name right into her ear.
“Nella? Nella?”
But it was like the snowstorm had swallowed her whole. She couldn’t hear a thing.
Her face was pale as paper behind the goggles, every drop of color gone.
She didn’t react. The tremors kept coming, harder now, and Alfred’s nerves shot through the roof.
He yanked off his skis, pulled her into his arms, and called her again and again.
“Nella, say something! What’s going on?!”
“Nella… Ne…”
Her body dropped all at once. She passed out completely.
“Nella!”
He yelled again, louder this time. “Nella!”
At Everwell Advanced Medical Center…
Alfred leaned against the hallway wall. His back hunched, eyes red with fear and stress.
He was still shaken by the way she collapsed.
He had no clue what caused it. She’d seemed fine-then just lost it out of nowhere.
The emergency team was still working on her.
He couldn’t sit still. He paced outside, sick with worry.
Then the ER doors swung open. A doctor stepped out.

“Mr. Keywood, you can breathe. Your wife fainted from a stress-induced shock response. We gave her a sedative. She’ll be okay after some rest.”
“Shock response?”
Alfred’s brow tightened. “What triggered it?”
“We can’t say for sure. Most likely something that scared her or a memory that came back. We’ll know more when she wakes up.”
Alfred gave a slow nod. He didn’t press further.
“Can I see her?”
“Absolutely. As soon as she’s moved to a room, you can be with her.”
He nodded again. But the tension in his chest didn’t case up-it only got heavier.
“Shock response? Something that scared her that badly?”
He mumbled the words to himself, eyes narrowed.
A loud voice cut through the hallway.
“Babe, please calm down! Don’t do anything stupid!”
Mason’s shout echoed from around the corner.
Then Jasmine appeared in his line of sight.
She saw Alfred and stormed over, her fury written all over her face.
“Alfred, you piece of trash! Haven’t you done enough to Nella?!
“She nearly died buried in the snow, and you still dragged her out skiing?!”
The words hit him like a punch to the gut. His pupils twitched. His pale face lost the last of its color.
“What?”
His voice came out rough, barely holding steady.
Jasmine stared him down and gave a bitter, sharp laugh.
“Who are you trying to fool with the whole caring act? Nella doesn’t need that crap anymore. If you’ve got even a sliver of shame, then leave. Get out before she wakes up.” She gasped. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!”
