No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 247

Chapter 247 Please, Yell at Me

He spoke in a hoarse voice.

His gaze, carrying a hint of pleading, fell on Nella.

Nella lowered her eyes and thought for a moment before finally saying,

“Grandpa, let him in.”

Regis opened the door and stepped aside.

After leaving the hospital room, he gave Alfred a long, meaningful look.

In the end, he shook his head with a sigh and walked away.

Alfred pushed open the hospital room door and walked in.

“I asked Sarah to make you some chicken soup. Try a little.”

His voice was rough and dry.

Alfred lifted the tray table, set the bowl of soup in front of Nella, and arranged everything for her.

He looked awkward and at a loss.

Careful and uneasy, like a child who had done something wrong and was waiting to be scolded.

But Nella didn’t blame him at all. Instead, she calmly thanked him.

“Thank you.”

Birthed

She nodded at Alfred, picked up the spoon beside her, and slowly fed herself small spoonfuls of soup.

The chicken soup carried the natural savory flavor of the meat, warm but not too hot. After a few bites, Nella felt her stomach ease a little.

“I’m sorry.”>

Alfred’s hoarse voice sounded beside her.

Nella paused, lifted her eyes from the bowl, and looked at him.

Then she smiled gently. “It’s okay. I wanted to go skiing myself.”

She had thought she could overcome that mental block. She hadn’t expected to overestimate herself.

But when Alfred looked at her, his eyes reddened again,

“I… I did this to you.”

In Alfred’s eyes were shame and helplessness, guilt and regret that wouldn’t fade.

And a trace of unease he refused to admit.

The calmer Nella was toward him-no blame, no anger, not even the willingness to be mad at him-the heavier that unease grew in his chest.

It felt like a blade was hanging right over his head, ready to drop at any second and destroy him.

Hearing him say that, Nella only shook her head calmly. “It has nothing to do with you. No one could have predicted an avalanche.”

As she spoke, her eyes fell, and she went on sipping the soup, slow and lost in thought.

“No, no, that’s not it, Nella!”

Alfred spoke in a panic. He grabbed Nella’s hand, his eyes filled with pleading.

“Yell at me, okay?! Nella, don’t be this calm. Please, just yell at me.

But Nella’s eyes stayed calm, showing not a hint of emotion.

She shook her head once more. “It’s not your fault.”

“How could it have nothing to do with me?! If I hadn’t left you there alone, even if an avalanche happened. I would’ve been by your side. You wouldn’t have…”

Alfred’s tone grew agitated, his eyes turning redder by the second.

“You wouldn’t have…”

“You didn’t have that responsibility.”

Nella cut him off calmly.

Her steady eyes met Alfred’s bloodshot ones as she repeated herself!

“Alfred, you didn’t have that responsibility.”

“How could I not? We are…”

The word reached Alfred’s lips, only to choke in his throat.

He didn’t have the nerve to say it.

Married?

If only he had understood what that responsibility meant back then, he wouldn’t have so decisively left her there, forcing her to face that near-death fear all alone.
