No Renewal My Contract Husband (Nella and Alfred) novel Chapter 251

Chapter 251 A Friend Who Matters

When Nella replied to the message, there was even a happy smile on her face.

One hand rested on the steering wheel. Without realizing it, Alfred tightened his grip.

His lips pressed into a thin line as he drove, clearly distracted.

He wanted to question her like before. He wanted to ask why she was chatting so happily with that man again.

But the words would not come out. Even though jealousy burned inside him, he could not say a single word.

Nella looked at the messages Wesley had sent her.

“I’m coming back next weekend.

“Here’s my flight info. Don’t forget to pick me up.

“And dinner is on you.”

Nella smiled and replied, “No problem. I’ll be there on time.”

“What are you craving? I’ll book a place for us.”

Wesley replied almost right away.

The two of them kept chatting back and forth the entire drive.

Alfred’s expression grew darker by the minute. He glanced at Nella several times, but she never once looked up at him.

She didn’t seem to care at all that her husband—who wasn’t even divorced yet-was sitting right beside her.

The jealousy made Alfred feel like he was losing his mind.

While waiting at a red light, he finally could not hold it in anymore.

“Is that the friend who’s always messaging you?” he asked.

Nella lifted her head from her phone. She immediately knew who Alfred meant.

Wesley’s messages were very recognizable.

But did Wesley really message her that often?

Not really.

“Yes,” she said with a nod. “A very important friend.”

She thought about those two weeks she had spent in Glacieroth. If Wesley had not helped her back then, she does not know how she would have made it through.

Now that Wesley was coming back to the country, she finally had a chance to repay him. She was truly happy.

For that reason, she even spoke to Alfred with more warmth than before.

A very important friend…

Alfred’s hand clenched hard around the steering wheel, so tight his knuckles turned white.

So she really cared about that man, didn’t she?

His throat felt tight and painfully dry.

He wanted to ask. But when the question reached his lips, he swallowed it back down, weak and silent.

Another message from Wesley came in.

By then, Nella had already put her phone on silent.

Even though Alfred could no longer hear the annoying notification sound, he still caught sight of Nella smiling as she typed.

The rest of the drive home passed in silence.

“Thank you for today,” Nella said when they arrived. “I’m sorry I disrupted your team event.”

She stopped Alfred at the door and did not let him come inside.

Her tone was polite, distant, and restrained.

Alfred’s jaw tightened. His voice came out hoarse.

“You don’t need to apologize. I didn’t know what happened and still asked you to come.”

After that, there was another stretch of silence.

Nella did not know what else to say. She simply nodded.

“Let’s leave the past in the past. I’m going inside now. You should go home too.”

She reached for the door.

“Nella.”

Alfred suddenly reached out and blocked the door before it could close.

“Yes?” she asked, lifting her eyes to him.

His expression was strained. He forced a smile and spoke with difficulty.

“Archie and the others said they want to come over and celebrate my birthday at home. Will you come?”

Nella froze.

Afraid she would refuse, Alfred still forced a stiff smile.
