As he spoke, he forced a smile that was meant to look relaxed. But to Nella, it looked worse than crying.

After a few seconds of silence, Nella nodded. “Alright. I’ll be there on time.”

Alfred let out a long breath of relief. The tight smile on his face finally softened.

“Then, I’ll head back now.”

“Okay. Goodbye.”

Monday arrived in a blink.

As usual, Alfred picked up Marshal and took him to the office on time.

Nella and Alfred seemed to have an unspoken agreement. Neither of them mentioned the Glacieroth avalanche again.

Alfred didn’t dare to bring it up. Nella, on the other hand, felt there was no point in talking about it.

To her, they were already getting divorced. Holding on to the past meant nothing.

After Marshal was taken away, Nella headed to the hospital for work.

As soon as she arrived at the department, a colleague called out to her.

“Dr. Milo, Professor Fred wants to see you in his office.”

A moment later, Nella knocked on the door to Caleb’s office.

“Professor Fred, were you looking for me?”

“Yes. Come in, Nella.”

Nella thought about it and didn’t object.

If she taught there, her schedule would be more flexible. That way, she wouldn’t need Alfred’s help to take care of Marshal anymore.

“Alright, Professor Fred. I’m fine with it.”

“Good. Get ready over the next few days. You can report to the medical school next Monday.”

After leaving Caleb’s office, Nella remembered that Wesley was also returning this week.

His flight was on Saturday.

She also remembered that she was scheduled to work that day.

Back in the department, she went to find Jasmine.

“A friend of mine is coming back from Glacieroth on Saturday,” Nella said. “I need to pick him up. Can we switch shifts, please?”

She held onto Jasmine’s arm and spoke in a soft, pleading tone.

“What kind of friend makes you act this cute?” Jasmine teased.

“It’s Dr. Keywood,” Nella said. “The one who helped me for two weeks in Glacieroth.”

“Oh, him,” Jasmine said with a grin. “That’s basically your lifesaver. Of course you should welcome him properly. Don’t worry. I’ll cover your shift.”

“Thank you, sweetheart.”

After that, Nella told Jasmine about Caleb arranging for her to teach at the medical school. Then they both went back to work.
