If Nella said those words out loud, Alfred would only think she was being petty and jealous of Zoey.

“Oh, right, Nella,” Camelia said with a grin. “Those puppies I showed you last time-want to take another look? They’re all still single.”

As she spoke, Camelia pulled out her phone. The screen had just locked when a long, well- defined hand took it away.

Camelia looked up and froze. It was Alfred.

“Hey, why are you taking my phone?” she snapped.

Alfred didn’t answer. He opened her photo album, found the folder labeled ‘Camelia’s Puppies,’ and deleted it without hesitation.

Camelia realized what was happening, but it was already too late.

“Alfred, you’re heartless!” she shouted.

Alfred only gave her a cold look. He handed the phone back and said calmly, “I’ll give you ten million dollars. Leave now, and stop filling Nella’s head with nonsense.”

“You’re shameless! Do you really think I care about that little bit of money?” Camelia yelled.

“50 million.”

“Well…” Camelia hesitated, then quickly changed her tone. “Money isn’t the point. I just want you two to spend more time together.”

With that, she took the phone. Alfred handed her the money and ran off without looking back.

Boohoo! Nella, it’s my fault for selling you out.

Alfred returned with a small plate of desserts and sat beside Nella.

“This cheesecake doesn’t have eggs,” he said. “Have some. At least don’t go hungry.”

Nella looked at the slice on the plate. It was the kind she often ate before.

She was allergic to eggs, so she could only eat cakes without them.

This cheesecake was made with sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream. It didn’t need to be baked-just chilled until set.

It was made especially for people who loved cake but couldn’t eat eggs.

She really was a little hungry. She took it without refusing and said softly, “Thank you.”

Alfred didn’t leave. He clearly planned to stay with her.

Nella couldn’t help but remind, “There are a lot of important guests here tonight. As the host, shouldn’t you be greeting them?”

“It’s fine,” Alfred replied. “Grandpa and Dad can handle that.”

As he spoke, he leaned back lazily against the couch.

He could hear it; she was trying to send him away again. But he didn’t want to go.

Alfred knew his time was running out.

In a method he once looked down on, he had forced her to stay by his side.

Even if the hope was tiny, almost impossible, he still wanted to try.

She was his wife. She was such a wonderful person. Maybe, just maybe, she would soften toward him.

But they hadn’t sat together for long when the event manager hurried over.

“Mr. Keywood,” he said politely, “the event will start soon. You’ll need to go on stage to give a speech.”

Then he looked at Nella and added, “At the end, you can invite Mrs. Keywood to join you on stage.”

Nella frowned slightly. “Me too?”

The clear resistance in her voice made the manager stiffen.

He glanced at Alfred nervously, afraid he had said the wrong thing.

“Mr. Keywood…”

Alfred didn’t make things hard for him. He only said calmly, “That won’t be necessary. I’ll give the speech on my own.”
