Chapter 264 Boundary and Warning

Alfred’s face was cold and hard. There was none of the warmth Zoey remembered.

Fear rushed through her. Panic followed. She reached out and grabbed his sleeve.

“Alfred, I know I was wrong,” she said quickly. “I shouldn’t have kept pulling you away from Nella. I really know it was my mistake now. Please don’t ignore me, okay?”

As she spoke, tears slid down her face.

This time, she wasn’t pretending. She was truly afraid Alfred would never speak to her again, and she cried from the heart.

But Alfred showed no response at all—no softness, no sympathy. Only impatience.

“For those two weeks,” he said coldly, “you’d better hope the only thing you did was shut off my phone. If I find out anything else, don’t blame me for not caring about the favor you once did for me.”

His words hit Zoey like a heavy blow to the chest.

Her face, already pale, turned completely white.

Without another glance, Alfred dropped those words, picked up his food, and walked away.

On the other side of the room, Camelia had somehow come over and sat beside Nella.

From where they were sitting, they could clearly see where Alfred and Zoey stood.

They couldn’t hear what was being said, but Zoey’s habit of crying at the smallest thing was nothing new to either of them.

“She must have been a leaky faucet in her last life,” Camelia said with clear annoyance. “The tears just turn on whenever she wants.”

Her voice was full of disgust.

Ever since Zoey had saved Alfred when he was sixteen, she had acted like she had special privileges around him.

That whole family had milked that life-saving favor for years and gotten plenty from her family.

Saving a life deserved thanks, of course. What Alfred had given the Macks was just money and favors-nothing life-changing. That part never bothered Camelia.

But after Alfred got married, Zoey still showed no sense of boundaries. She hovered around even more boldly than a secret lover. That was when Camelia truly started to dislike her.

Compared to Camelia, Nella barely reacted when she saw Alfred and Zoey standing together again.

When she heard Camelia’s comment, she even laughed.

“Nella, how can you still laugh?” Camelia said, annoyed and disappointed.

brother.

She glanced at Alfred’s back and continued, “Tonight is clearly your moment with my And she shows up dressed like some over-the-top showpiece, jumping around everywhere.”

Zoey was wearing a light blue gown that night, with a wide, flowing skirt.

The dress was layered with feather-like details from top to bottom, spreading out toward the hem.

When she walked, it looked like wings in motion.

Just by the fabric and workmanship, it was obvious the dress was expensive.

But it was heavy. Perfect for a red carpet, not for a normal dinner party.

And it felt like she was trying to steal the spotlight.

It was clear Zoey had prepared carefully for this grand gala.

“I don’t mind,” Nella said gently. She patted Camelia’s shoulder to calm her down.

“And don’t say things like that where Alfred can hear you. Or he’ll cut your allowance again.”

“Bah! I’m not scared of him,” Camelia said, curling her lips.

“Honestly, sometimes I wonder if Zoey really saved both Belinda and Alfred back then. I just can’t see her as the type who would risk herself for someone else.”

Belinda Pena was Alfred’s mother.

Nella had wondered about that too, but she kept the thought to herself.
