Chapter 279 Distress Call
Mason didn’t stop him. He just watched as Alfred drank himself numb.
This was all Alfred’s own doing. He couldn’t blame anyone else.
If Marshal had still been with him, maybe there would have been a chance.

But Nella wouldn’t even let him keep Marshal anymore. That meant whatever hope they had left was almost gone.
Just then, Archie’s phone rang.
“Why is Zoey calling me at a time like this?”
Archie took out his phone and frowned when he saw the caller ID.
“Hello? Zoey, what’s going on?”
“Archie…”
Zoey was crying so hard on the other end that Archie froze.
“Zoey, what happened? What? Alfred is ignoring you?”
As he spoke, Archie glanced at Alfred, who was still sitting there with his head down, drinking
in silence.
Archie stood up and walked to a quiet corner, lowering his voice.
“Alfred is in a bad mood. Don’t bother him right now.”
Zoey paused. She heard something off in Archie’s tone.
“Alfred is with you, right? He blocked me. Please give him the phone and let him talk to me, just for a bit. Okay?”
“Huh? He blocked you? That serious?”
Archie scratched his head. “Did you do something bad? With how much Alfred always spoiled you, how could he block you?”
Zoey didn’t want to argue. Her voice turned sharp and impatient.
“Stop asking. Just give the phone to Alfred.”

“No way. Alfred is in a terrible mood. If he blocked you, that means he doesn’t want to hear from you. If I hand him the phone, I’m asking for trouble.”
“Archie…”
“Alright, that’s it.”
Archie cut her off.
He had a strong feeling that if he kept being this nice to Zoey, his girlfriend might dump him
too.
Just as Archie was about to hang up, Zoey suddenly cried out, “Archie! My mom was taken to the police station because of Nella. Please help me. Archie, I’m begging you!”
Archie’s hand froze. “What did you say?”
Wow. Is Nella this bold now?
He had just found out yesterday that Zoey was taken in by the police because Nella had called them.
And now, just a few days later, Zoey’s mom was arrested too?
It looks like Alfred’s endless indulgence of Zoey had finally pushed Nella past her limit.
“Archie…”
“Hold on,” Archie said. “Nella can’t just tell the police to arrest her, and the police do it, right? The cops don’t mess around for nothing. Didn’t your mom do something wrong?”
Every time Archie felt his scalp itch, he knew his brain was working overtime again.
On the other end, Zoey was completely stunned by his casual question.
“I… Don’t you trust me anymore?” She cried.
“Look at you,” Archie snapped back. “I ask a simple question, and you won’t answer it. You just change the subject. That tells me everything. If I help you find Alfred now, you’ll just get me yelled at by him. Are you trying to ruin me?”
Zoey couldn’t argue with that.
“I’m hanging up.”
