After a moment, Zoey tried again. She reached for Alfred’s sleeve, but he shook her off hard.

“Alfred, what are you talking about?” she said, forcing a confused look. “I don’t understand.

“I did send Nella a lot of messages,” she went on quickly. “But they were all to apologize. I didn’t mean anything else.”

She was gambling. Gambling that Alfred didn’t know the truth. Back then, she had used his phone to reply to Nella on WhatsApp.

And that phone? She had smashed it herself.

Alfred would never repair an old phone like that.

Even if there was a cloud backup, the message she sent had already been deleted. There was no way Alfred could have seen it.

Yes. I couldn’t admit it.

I absolutely couldn’t.

Alfred looked down at Zoey, who was slumped on the floor. His eyes were cold and sharp, frighteningly so.

“If you can’t remember,” he said, “then keep thinking.”

Just then, Sergio returned after finishing the discharge paperwork. When he saw Zoey on the floor, he froze for a second, then his face turned awkward.

This woman really had guts. To pull something like this right in front of Mr. Keywood.

She really wasn’t afraid of consequences.

Alfred walked out of the hospital room without looking at Zoey again.

He only said to Sergio, “End all cooperation with Horizon Industries.”

Zoey, who had still been trying to look pitiful, went completely pale when she heard that.

She pushed herself up on shaking legs. “Alfred, don’t do this.”

Before her hand could even touch the corner of Alfred’s coat, Sergio stepped in and blocked her.

“Ms. Mack, show some respect.”

Sergio was secretly overjoyed.

Finally, he could openly kick this two-faced schemer away from Mr. Keywood.

Every time she called his boss with that syrupy fake tone, Sergio’s ears suffered more than anyone could imagine.

Zoey shot Sergio a fierce glare. The cruelty in her eyes looked nothing like the weak, helpless act she showed Alfred.

Sergio was speechless.

With a face-changing speed like that, even an actress would lose to her.

Zoey still refused to give up. More than anything, she was terrified of what would happen next.

“Alfred, I know I was wrong,” she cried. “I’ll go apologize to Nella. I really know I was wrong.”

Suddenly, she dropped to her knees in the hallway and clung tightly to Alfred’s leg, refusing to let go.

Sergio’s thoughts started to drift again.

This scene could easily take up half an episode in a period drama.

Your Majesty, I know I was wrong, but I had no choice.

No, no. Stop it.

Sergio pulled himself together and spoke seriously, “Ms. Mack, please behave. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being rough.”

Zoey ignored him completely.

“Alfred, please don’t be so cruel to me. I’m begging you

Alfred…”

Before she could finish, her emotions overwhelmed her, and she passed out on the spot.

Last time she fainted, Alfred had panicked. This time, his heart was hard as stone.

He looked down at Zoey lying on the floor. His eyes showed no reaction at all.

Alfred didn’t spare her even a single glance. He walked away without looking back.

“Mr. Keywood, wait for me.”

Sergio carried Alfred’s medicine in one hand and hugged his laptop and file folder in the other as he hurried after him.

After a few steps, he stopped. He turned back and jogged over to Zoey, crouching down beside her.
