Sergio leaned close to her ear and whispered softly, “There are two huge cockroaches right next to your ear.”
Then he ran off.
“Arghhh!!!”
Zoey screamed and jolted upright from the ground.
When she saw Mason, Ryan, and Archie standing in front of her, all looking at her with mixed, awkward expressions, she finally realized she had been tricked by Sergio.
Zoey stared at the three of them in shock.
She knew Mason and Ryan didn’t like her much, so she quickly turned to Archie with a pleading look.
“Archie…”
“Enough already,” Ryan cut in, clearly fed up. “How long are you going to keep acting cute? And stop calling him in that tone. Archie is younger than you.”
In the past, Ryan hadn’t corrected her.
First, it was out of respect for Alfred. Second, he didn’t want to embarrass a girl.
But Zoey was younger than Alfred. Acting cute to him feels odd.
Acting cute with those older than her was fine, but pulling that trick on people younger than
her was too much.
Ryan’s words made Zoey’s face burn red.
She looked at Archie. The Archie who used to comfort her and take her side now avoided her eyes. He looked at the floor, then at the ceiling, anywhere but her.
“Archie…”
After being corrected so bluntly, she couldn’t bring herself to speak in that tone again.
“Alfred’s already gone,” she said awkwardly. “Why are we still here? Let’s … let’s go.”
Archie really couldn’t stay any longer.

If this got any more awkward, he felt like he might dig a hole straight through the hospital wall.
He pushed Mason and Ryan, urging them to leave.
Zoey sat frozen on the ground. She faintly heard Archie complaining to Mason as they walked
away.
“No wonder Babe keeps calling me an idiot. I really was stupid back then.”
“No,” Mason replied calmly. “You were very smart. You just followed Alfred wherever he went.”
“Why do I feel like you’re both mocking me for switching sides so fast?” Archie shot back.
Zoey collapsed where she sat, disbelief filling her eyes.
She never imagined that the people who once praised her and spoiled her would now walk away without even looking back.
Was all their kindness before just fake?
“No, no, that can’t be,” she muttered to herself. “I saved Alfred’s life. He wouldn’t treat me like this.”
Zoey refused to accept the truth right in front of her.
She struggled to her feet and staggered out of the hospital.
“Mr. Keywood, should we go back to East Manor?” Richie asked.
Alfred pressed his fingers against his aching temples. Nella’s cold voice from the phone call flashed through his mind, tightening his chest.
After a moment, he said weakly,
“Go to Emerald Vista Bay.”
“Yes, boss.”
After the car had driven some distance from the hospital, Sergio, sitting in the front passenger seat, heard Alfred’s low voice from the back.
“There’s one more thing,” Alfred said. “Have someone investigate it. Use any method you
need.”
After hearing what Alfred wanted him to look into, Sergio fell silent.
That was from more than ten years ago. And you want to dig it up now?

Anyone could see Zoey was never the type to sacrifice herself for others. If you had checked back then, would things have ended up like this?
Alfred noticed Sergio’s silence and his complicated expression. He frowned.
“Can’t it be done?”
“It can,” Sergio replied quickly. “It can.”
Check it.
I’m going to check it thoroughly. Even if I have to turn the whole world upside down.
The next day.
“Come on,” Nella said cheerfully. “I’ll take you out to have some fun.”
After breakfast, she placed Marshal into his stroller and headed out of the house with him.
